This is a nice thing to have but not required to tow a 5er with. All three of my 5er's have had the cord plugged into the bumper and I have pulled for over 40,000 miles this way.

It'll work just fine in the bumper. That said it's pretty easy to install in the bed too. You don't have to move it, you can buy kits with a Y connector. So long as you have a hole saw, it's a pretty simple install. Something like this https://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-...rt/C56070.html

While I've never tried hooking ours to the bumper connection, I'm near positive the cable would bind when turning tightly. We've a long bed though, so maybe it'll work for you.

Only issue with the bumper placement is trailer umbilical cord can hang down and rub against tailgate...which can easily be resolved with a bungee cord to hold cord up
