Trouble unhitching a Pullrite Superglide

Well six months into our transition from Class A to Montana fifth wheel. Love everything about it except when we get to a campground and have to unhitch our
Pullrite Superglide Fifth Wheel Hitch. Tried everything watched a million videos. I can never just pull into a campground and unhitch. It is always a hassle knowing when you get there you just can't set up everything.

Any help from others would be appreciated

Thanks in advance!

Try leaving the truck in Neutral and do not set the truck brakes. Place two wheel chocks behind the trailer wheels one on each side. Being sure the site is fairly level and the truck won’t roll after unhitching. This way you are taking any tension out of the truck and trailer when they are hitched up. If you are concerned about truck movement have your wife or partner sit behind the steering wheel ready to apply the brakes when the truck is un hitched.

I have found in the past that sometimes there is tension that cause the hitch to bind to the kingpin when you pull into a site. And this method relieves the tension on the latch.

Good luck

Truck and trailer have to be ALMOST directly in-line with each other

1. Once you have the trailer located and are ready to unhitch, (unhitching can only be accomplished when the truck
and trailer are aligned within 16 degrees of each other--see pg. 9), block the trailer wheels so it will not roll back or forward.
Back into the blocked trailer slightly and set the parking brake while you are still in gear. This action will relieve pressure on the lock mechanism before attempting to release the latch mechanism.

2. Lower the trailer jacks to the point of just touching the ground but do not raise the trailer at this point.

3. Open the Lock Jaw Assembly by first lifting, then pulling the Release Handle towards you (see pg. 8).

4. Lower the trailer jacks until the bottom of the king pin box is almost free of the top of the Fifth Wheel Plate {A}.
Make certain that the bottom of the king pin is not so high that binding on the hitch Lock Catch would result.

5. After lowering the truck’s tail gate, disconnect the trailer electrical cord and break-away switch cable, then pull forward.

6. As the king pin slides from the Fifth Wheel Plate, notice that the locking mechanism remains open once the king pin is removed.
I took my Medication today. HAVE YOU?

X3 ^^^ What they said. Once you get this down you will find that you will be unhitched, auto-leveled in the same amount of time as it took to dump air and auto-level a motorhome. Slides out and utilities hooked up in a few more minutes. Then you all can sit down and enjoy your cool favorite beverage.

Sometimes I have to raise the trailer slightly to get the lock ring to fully disengage on my Superglide.

Was going to post the same thing. If there is too much weight still on the hitch head it will just slide when you try to pull away if you aren't exactly straight and have the head in place. As someone else said, I often just grab the trailer brakes and put it in reverse to help release pressure against the jaws. One of these two (or both) have always fixed the issue.

Everything that's been already said, straight, proper height & no tension forward or backwards. The specification of no tension was the most common issue for me. Now, after chocking the trailer, I place the truck in neutral and thus no horizontal tension on the pin and it almost always releases first try. If you're concerned about the truck rolling away you can set the parking brake after placing it in neutral. The straight on issue means you always want to park in a manner that you can maneuver the truck for straight on hitch-up; screwed this up once and learned a difficult lesson.

When I first started using my pull-rite on my fiver I experienced the same issues. Had to learn the previous responses the hard way. Use Old-Biscuit’s directions and you should be fine.
One other suggestion is to make sure the release mechanism is well lubricated (as per Pull-rite guidelines. Found mine got somewhat hard to operate. A little cleaning/lubrication really helped.
