Truck box compatibility?

I have a 2018 Ram 2500 short bed and a 2020 Coachman Chaparral. Looking to replace my in bed tool box, but not sure what boxes are level with the bed rails or if it I am being overly cautious.
Thanks.

I think I bought my box from a local farm and ranch store. I went bed level but I think there are some that only have 3" or so above the bedrails. If you use a standard tool box, you have a really good chance of hitting it backing into a normal site and may hit going forward in a full lock turn depending on the front cap design of your camper. I'd go with one level with the bedrails to be safe.

are you looking for a fuel /tool box?

I put a 60 gallon RDS fuel/tool box in my truck. real world it holds 50-53 gallons of fuel . The tool box is about 6" deep and is below the bed rails and under my soft cover. I have it plumbed into my main tank so I can drive a long way towing and a VERY long way empty.

Thank you all for the responses. I will check out my local farm and ranch stores. Not wanting a fuel tank with it. I need it as deep as possible to fit my 50 ton bottle jack, air tank, survival bag, tools etc.

I found a really nice box at my local farm and ranch store. And it was on sale. Woohoo!. I'll get pictures up once I have it installed.

This is the tool box I have had for close to about eight years. I moved from our 2001 Ram to the 2016, the bed is deeper on the 2016, and I lifted it about 1.5" so I can get plywood under it if needed.

Rhagfo,

I'd be interested in seeing your mounting solution for that box. I have been thinking about doing a similar thing, to keep the bed floor available for lumber, plywood, etc. Did you hang it from the rails?

I used some PVC 3/4” or 1” couplings, on in each corner, I have’s noticed any bed deformation. The tool box and contents likely weighs about 600# or more.
