My prior truck was a 2016 F250 SB, I could open the storage bay fully if truck and trailer were straight.
Current truck is 2019 F350 LB DRW. Couldn’t open the storage bay fully. It hits the rear bumper. (Perhaps due to the bumper profile more so than the bed length). Both trucks had stock rear bumpers.
Recently changed to a Lippert FlexAire pin box which happens to be a bit longer. Now the hatch clears the bumper (barely,) but it won’t clear the ducktail/spoiler protrusion at the top of the tailgate. (Again, may be a function of the profile and contours of tailgate with year model change versus the increased bed length.
On a separate but related note for Ford Superduty owners. It is possible for one to accidentally leave his tailgate step down and attempt to hook up the 5er. And the step DOES NOT clear it. (Guess how I know this?)
