Using camper in the winter

I am new to this stuff just this year. My camper is set up in a campground that is year round. Can I just unhook the water connection and keep my tank heaters on and be ok? Iíll keep the camper heated. Just hate to use the antifreeze and have to do all the flushing every time I go to the camp.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that the electricity at the RV Park could go down, it happens more than you might think. I had a couple pipes freeze and break in a fifth wheel many years ago and fixing the mess was no fun at all. I personally would winterize it, but that's just me.

I had a no slide travel trailer set up on a seasonal site and used to camp year round. I winterized, emptied the tanks and unhooked all utilities the weekend the campground shut down. After that, I would carry my water in and run my generator on the weekends that I could go camping. I would put pink stuff in the toilet and down the sink traps before heading back home. I didn't have any problems.

It gets pretty chilly with lots of wind and snow in Iowa IIRC. Leaving water in an untended RV is pretty risky to your plumbing. Unless you have a pretty big solar array and a bank of high capacity batteries, you might not keep interior (electric?) heat on, hot water heater going or tank heaters working. If your heat is propane, that furnace 'eats' that stuff like I eat potato chips.

You should be able to winterize your camper in 15 minutes once you have done it a couple of times. My advice would be to winterize the RV, disconnect the power & battery (put on a maintenance charger), and disconnect the water hose. Then un-winterize the next visit, again in 15 minutes.
RV's are designed for non-powered storage periods in mind.
