Water damage - need opinions

Hey there,

We are looking at purchasing a 2009 Open Range 335BHS from a private seller. They've been honest and up front with us and have told us there is some water damage from an "apparent leak" in the back bunkroom slide. We're going to talk with them later today to get more information, but they did send us a picture of the damage, which I've attached to this post...

We'd love opinions from those with water damage experience - at first glance, does this looks repairable, or should we just walk away right now?

Anyone want to weigh in? TIA!

Unless you are prepared to do the repairs or have someone do it I'd walk away. No telling what's underneath.

Agree. I would consider this a project. It should priced accordingly and you should consider your time/funds/frustration level very flexible.

It all depends on how handy you are. Anything mechanical can be repaired, it's all a matter of your time and $$. So buy it cheap.

All depends on price, comfort level with the repairs, and your available time to do the repairs.

If you are handy, have the time and skill set to do the repairs, and get it for the right price... probably fine.

That look like a slide wall(s) and floor rebuild to me....and maybe the roof if the water was coming down from there

My experience when buying used trailers is that people either take care of them of they don't.

On a 2009 you may find there's a whole lot more that hasn't been taken care of that the people don't know about.

Which would you rather do next summer?? Go camping or work on the camper? It could be a much larger project after you get into the wall.

We had an Open Range and the problem was the water was flowing down the slide and seeping in at the bottom. Required a full replacement of the bottom of slide and floor. Guess it depends how handy you are but i have heard of others with the same problem.

Check it out very carefully and if you feel comfortable doing the repairs yourself buy it cheap. My Hitch Hiker needed a new floor in the LR slide and it was a job that a full timer would not tackle. Others on here have the tools and talent to do it. Personally water damage scares me.

It doesn't appear to me that it is in a slide. It looks like it is on the main wall. The board you see is the slideout side trim board. So it would move in when the slideout is in.

Also see the carpet, it goes out into the slideout which is quite common to cover over the slideout edge.
