What is the point of the extra flooring on my slide out?

Alright, so as you can see in the picture, my slide out floor comes in about an extra foot from the wall. The subfloor goes under it all the way back, so what is the point of this extra flooring on the slide out? Does it have any structural importance? Why did they put it there? Id like to cut it back to where the benches for the kitchen table end, cause I really don't like the lip and I need to get under there anyway. I've been thinking I have to take the whole slide out but If it has no structural importance I'm going to take it off anyway.

Thats how they cover up the junction between the body of the trailer and the slide.

You most likely have a slight depression under part of that area where either rollers or nylon 'blades" serve to push the slide up inside the RV when closing. As mentioned it's a transition area. On ours it's thinner as the inside edge is a stiff carpet and not thick wood covered with carpet.
