Which hitch for our F350 DRW?
We went from a 34’ Coachmen Chapparal fifth wheel which we were using an F-250 for towing to a 2023 VanLeigh Beacon 34RLB Fifth Wheel. After much discussion plus strong advice from great people here on the forums we purchased a 2020 Ford F-350 DRW truck. So now we have to upgrade the hitch. Looking for recommendations on the right hitch. Hubby is researching but I wanted to ask what others are doing. Thanks in advance for your help.
We pick up the truck tomorrow and hope to get a hitch installed asap so we can bring the 5th wheel home from where it’s at now.

You will want a hitch that is rated for 20K with 5K vertical load rating
(2023 VanLeigh Beacon 34RLB 18K GVWR...wet pin roughly 3800/4000#)
2020 F350 DRW
Factory Puck System?

My 2022 Vanleigh Beacon 41FLB has a pin weight of 3950 and a gross weight of 18300 fully loaded with 30% fresh water and empty holding tanks. I use a Demco Sliding 5th wheel due to my Ram dually being a short bed. You didn’t mention short or long bed, it makes a difference.

He is picking up the truck today. I know it is a Crew cab long bed. 6.7L diesel. 5th wheel prep pkg. I don’t know the pin weight right off hand on the camper. I think it’s 3260 but will have to look when I get home.

I was in the same position as you starting from scratch. I opted for the Gen-Y goose ball hitch. After one season and approximately 3500 miles I have no complaints. I bought it from the Vanleigh dealer whom I questioned about warranty and they said it is a non issue. If you go this route you need to be sure they you get the model to match your pin weight. I really like having a clear bed when I unhitch.

B&W OEM Companion. I run a Companion on my 17 F350 DRW. Easy to hook up and un hook. I have no issues with chucking. It is a well built hitch.

I second the Companion. No issues with mine. Very stout construction.

Look into the Demco Recon Fifth Wheel Hitch. If you do not get the slider, they disassemble into 3 parts with pins, which makes removing from the bed of the pick-up truck much easier. Check them out.

trailer saver BD5F , you will not regret spending a little more for it. Its heavy but it will be fairly easy to get it out of a Ford, the cam locks are on the out side of the hitch and are accessible. The GM version of the BD5 uses the same parts but turns the outside tower legs inboard and puts the cam locks inside the hitch. The BD5 and a morryde pin box makes for a very smooth ride .

X3 on the B&W Companion. Easy to remove in 2 pieces when needed, a top shelf made in USA product.
If you’re going for the traditional 5th wheel platform and pin box combination, without air ride, I’d say you’re hard pressed to find a better hitch.

We used a Trailer Saver TS3 air ride hitch in our 10 years of full-time travel with the 19,000 #, 40 ft, 4200# pin weight 5er in the signature. I would not pull a 5er without an air ride hitch....end of discussion.

Hitch decided on finally!
Thanks to everyone for sharing. He bought a Curt Q25 hitch. Turns out we have the puck system. Picked up the camper from getting a slider adjustment. Totally different now with the dually. Thanks again all for great advice!
