Why don't more fifth wheels have generators?

Because most people are interested in price and won’t pay the additional money.

If I am allowed to stereotype here, MH's are generally the older crowd and move often so a onboard generator is more convenient for them.
A FW is more for the weekend crowd and/or will stay parked longer, so a portable generator is better suited for longer stays resulting in less moving along with lower cost.
Example - You won't find a Cadillac with manual crank windows!

We had a gen in a Montana Big Sky and never used it. i found we alswys camped in campground and had a hookup. WE had a propane frig and did not use AC when driving. We are in a motor home now that is all electric. Inverter runs frig. on hot days engine ac is not enough to cool coach so i have to run gen to run roof ac units. we have also overnighted a few times in truck stops and used gen for a few hours.

More and more people are using solar panels. They invest on 2 or 3 extra batteries, 2 or 3 solar panels, and they don't have to worry about carbon monoxide, gas or diesel, noise, etc.

Fifth wheel trailers are available generator ready and you can have a generator installed. The short answer is there is no market for it, if there was, they'd all have em.

I think it is known how little if ever they are going to be used. Not many public CGs accommodate a 43' 5er and 23 1/2' dually. Much easier to maintain a couple portables unless FT in the 5er. I can be fairly comfortable in the house during power outage after a hurricane with portables. They fit nicely in front of my hitch. I can run 2 for 6 - 9 hours on 2 gallon of gas or 1 just a tad larger and much heavier on a 30# tank of propane for about 6.5 - 7 hours.

Serious? I'm only 3/4 time in my 5W 7-9 months out every year. The majority of the full timers I know are in 5W's, just a few in Class A's. I think a more accurate statement would be weekenders normally buy entry/mid level or older RV's and the more time spent the the higher quality the RV.

I was told they don't put a gen in TH anymore because of the concerns of a running engine, think sparks, etc., and a fuel-powered vehicle in the same relative space.
To me, a TH, automatically says boondocking, therefore needs a gen !!

In my Full Time RV world, it is about 50/50 fifth wheel vs Class A. Either way it's rare for us to hear a generator running, but we normally stay at cg's with elec. I agree that part timers lean toward less expensive rigs which are generally less expensive (no built in generators) since the $$ need to be divided between a stick house and the RV.
There are unlimited exceptions to this, based on personal wealth and a desired use of the RV.
We carry a Honda 3000 portable generator and rarely use it. But it's good to have just like in our house for when the power goes out. The benefit is that the portable gen can be taken anywhere I need to use remote power if needed and/or exchanged for another unit.

You were told a pile of BS. Many MHs run a genset while driving or in CG with car/truck parked nearby.

I have a 2008 295WP 5th toyhuler. It is prepped for an onboard gas generator. I have a 5500 sustained generator that is use when camping with out elec. Usually on private property for motorcycle events and music festivals. The places we go place the RVers away from the stage so generator noise is away from the crowds and tenters.



I can also use my generator during power outtages and such. But I usually do not carry it when I'm not planning to use it. We've have discussed a backup plan and may decide to carry it more frequently..


With my onboard fuel tank, I can run my generator for 5 days. We are in NC and need AC most of the times that we camp. Without the AC, my wife would not be able to attend most events we go to. If she over heats, that's sets off her pain and then is a downhill ride.



We camp different from most. But we use our camper alot more than most also. But rarely travel over 500 miles.

Our Arctic Fox 29.5t has an 5500 Onan LP. It has worked out great for us. We have used it to keep the coach cooled off while travelling in the 105 degree plus heat of last summer...no problem. Actually it has been pretty reasonable to run as we only run our 13.5 A/C down the highway and only cool the coach to 80 or so. Also changed to the 7.5 gallon propane tanks and mounted two in the back of my pick up on a travel trailer mount to carry plenty enough. The cost of solar and lithium batteries is just nuts right now by the time you all the controllers and accessories. The generator was cheap in comparison. I do have 100 watts of solar on the roof that essentially keeps the batteries topped off mostly. Plus if and when we need the power off grid..it works great! Happy camping all!!!
