My wife and I just got back from a trip Los Angeles and stopped at a rest area just outside of Phoenix. The rig next to us was a sight to behold. The guy (from Canada) had taken an old 5ver and rebuilt it from the wheels up. He actually added pontoons to both sides of the rig. He now can launch his rig into any lake or river.

His TV was a converted class C motorhome that he chopped off and turned into a 5ver pull vehicle.

He said that he has to jack up the trailer to lower the pontoons (on hinges). I don't see how he then launches the boat(?). I couldn't tell if he had some little wheels under the pontoons.

He has a control platform on the roof so he can be up on top and control the vehicle in the water.

Now my wife wants me to build this same contraption. Has anyone ever seen information on adding pontoons to a trailer?

Seems like pontoons folded up on the sides would make it too wide to legally travel down the road. Most campers are already at maximun legal width. it would be cool to see a fiver with a couple of big Mercury outboards on the back. Did he have those?

Sorry, I didn't get real specific did I? The pontoons folded onto the top of his trailer. He had built it with a flat roof so they would sit properly. I guess he built a taller area at the center hall for walking.

I didn't see any engines, but he did have a wooden closet at the rear that could house the motor. I saw some type of steering device underneath the rig but couldn't figure out what he mounted on it. It was not a rudder.

He told us that he runs on the rivers and canals in Ontario, Canada.
