OP, looking at diesel is really what you are going to want out here when traversing the Rockies. What wasn't entirely clear is there is no mention of if you'll be bed loading your two dirt bikes and simultaneously towing your TT? If so, go diesel for those trailers you are looking at.

I'm bed loading my 850lbs wet ATV and towing my 9000lbs loaded for camping TT. I need the payload so tow with a 1-ton modern diesel when heading out to somewhere like Taylor Park for the week dry camping. I would not want anything less towing the passes out here. I'm not saying you need a 1-ton for that extra payload but I would do exactly as you've stated where you've indicated you'll be looking at diesel. So be looking in the 3/4-ton or 1-ton territory, skip the diesel 1/2 tons. Once towing, you'll be very happy with a diesel at elevation for larger loads.

EDIT: BTW, Outdoors RV trailers look to be pretty nice and will most likely be the brand I go with when I am replacing my current TT.
I agree 100% especially with the elevations and terrain out here. Most people don't realize how much the high altitude robs horsepower etc. Not to mention the declines on these passes and everything that goes along with it.

I didn't really want to sell my near mint 13' Silverado 1500 LTZ but its probably for the better. We are going to look at an 07' Silverado 2500HD Duramax w/ 82k miles this coming weekend. Looks like a great tow rig and in my price range.

I'll keep you all posted. Once I get this truck situation squared away, it will be camper time!

I have a 2017 sierra 1500 4x4 with the 5.3 and 3.42. It pulls my 5000#TT which is around 6000# when traveling, pretty well but works hard on hilly roads and into headwinds. my trailer and truck have great brakes and I put a Helwig helper spring on each side in the rear just to counteract dips in the road.. if you stay in the 5000# dry wt. range when trailer shopping it will be doable with that truck but at those altitudes the truck will be working hard. you may be better off upgrading trucks.
