'14 Ram 2500 Electronics...

I'm not brand conscious, so please don't waste my time and yours bashing my choice of vehicle...... That being said... My truck is 7 years old this month and I have enjoyed it's pulling power and reliability, so far. But the electronics are nuts sometimes. Especially the steering wheel controls. There are times when nothing works. More often it's almost impossible to get the menu to go where you want it. There was a recall some years back about the wiring in the steering wheel housing. It was (supposedly) complied with. Has anyone else had these issues with this craziness?

Thanks...

I've had a 96, 2003, 2006, 2014 and now a 2018. No issues on anything in the 2000s. The 96 had all the normal problems.

I also never had a recall for any wiring issues on any of them.

As far as brand bashing, I've also had my share of Fords and Chevys. They are really all about the same anymore as far as quality goes.

Have a 17 Ram 1500 Longhorn will all the extras. No issues here with electronics except for occasionally when I push the start button, it will act like itís going to start, but then suddenly dies. Always starts right up with another push, but not sure whatís that about. Itís pretty rare, so not too concerned. 55k miles, and still am very much pleased.

When I had my '05 Reg cab gasser, the wiper switch would not always work when the truck got to be 8 to 10 years old.
I cleaned up ALL the body grounds in the engine compartment and it started working all the time after that.
Maybe that would help you?

I had a 2012 2500 Ram and now a 2016 3500. I've only ever had 2 electronics related issues.

- Brake control modules are wonky sometimes and show trailer brakes disconnected. It was much worse on my 2012. My 2016 seemed to correct itself after some dielectric grease in my 7pin connector.

If I am rolling down the driverside window with the auto down feature and hit a large pothole or anything similar the auto down feature will stop working for a random period of time. Eventually it goes back to working. That has happened the same in both trucks.

Other than that, everything has always worked as intended.

I do remember the steering harness recall. I believe it was cruise control related. I had it fixed on my 2012, but the 2016 was already done when I got the truck.

You should check if the clockspring is going bad. Never had the problem myself but I have read on some of the forums about problems similar to yours. One of the symptoms seems to be inconsistent problems. Different year truck, but here is one story of the problems: https://liveworkdream.com/2019/03/29...b-replacement/

Ive had several dodge company trucks and everyone loves to complain about the dodge trannys. Ive never had one single issue with the 68rfe, but holy smokes the electronics.....ive had steering wheel controls replaced, window switches, several harnesses. I was always told gms were bad for the electrical stuff failing, but the dodges ive had blow the gms away.

Owned 4 A 94 - 06- 14 and a twenty . The more sophisticated the electronics become the more apt you are to having a problem . Just minor stuff for me . Lucky l guess .

Sounds like a bad clockspring. It lives behind the steering wheel in the column. All the steering wheel electrical including airbag goes through it.

I do believe that the recalls were for a clock spring issue and not cruise control now that I think on it.

OP check and see if you have an open recall for the clock spring harness. Iím almost certain thatís what they replaced on both my trucks.

In my experience, this is a key fob battery problem.

We have a Nissan car. Not often but once in while something does not work. Usually the blue tooth and phone stuff. Turn the car off, wait 30 seconds and turn it back on will usually work.

Oh - we had a rear camera replaced on a 2019.

There are more and more electronics on all vehicles it never suprises me when sonething does not work.

Heck I remember cars from the 70's. They had had radios. The only electronic think in the car.

Thanks
