2005 Jeep Toad crank sensor

FYI

I've got a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 Hemi.

Over the last +10 years I've had my share of problems but hate to give it up as it is a great toad (and paid for).

I had been getting an intermittent miss while driving and had gotten worse. I was driving to town last week and it bucked and jumped and started running really rough and would not accelerate. Turned around and headed home. I can pull the DTC codes and it said crank sensor, P0315 & P0335. Went and bought one at Autozone ~$25. Not hard to change. But it still ran rough.

Back to the internet and more searches specific to the crank sensor. After an hour of searching and reading I found a post on a Jeep forum and the description of the problem was the same but in the end the poster said he had read that the sensor had to be "Relearned" which is normally done with a scanning tool but I don't have. He described a procedure where you disconnect the battery, turn the key on without starting, and depress the throttle pedal 3 times fully to the ground. I went a head and tried this and it worked.

Not sure if it was disconnecting the battery or the the rest of the process but it fixed the problem.

This may be the same for other model Jeeps or Dodge products with the Hemi. Seems to be a common problem. I just turned ~138K miles on the Jeep with probably another 30 K towed.
