Just curious - have you driven a 4th Generation (model year 2010 and later) Ram??

I drove a friends spankin-new 2011 2500ram. I was very impressed with the interior and the ride, and that diesel is really quiet with great power! I was wishing he had a hitch in it so I could drag my trailer up the canyon
55k is a lot of cash. I bought my truck new in 99 for 34k. its been a great truck. someday I might get a newer truck, but I doubt ill buy new again.
besides my wife watches too much suzie orman and im sure my request would be "DENIED!"

We've got a 2500HD (diesel), SRW and are very happy with the way it tows our 11,000 lb trailer. No problems or issues and the exhaust brake, Allison trans, etc. all work great.

All of them are pretty close at the moment. I went from GMC to Ford because I like the dash layout better. Yea I know. If you want proven tech stay with GMC or Dodge. Being from farm country I love Cummings engines but just do not like the Dodge styling, and it hurts me deeply. But best bet drive all three, right now (new units out of the show room) Dodge lacks the power numbers but none of them are bad.

After 7k miles towing from the flatlands of the SE to the mountains of Co pulling a gross combined 26,500lbs I am completely sold on my Chevy. From the pulling power up the mountains to the coming down without using the service brakes except to slow to the 15-20 mph turns it is just fantastic. Whatever you buy I hope it does as good as GM does pulling this kind of weight. Makes me glad I went with the light duty instead of a used MDT. Did I mention it rides good too. In Silverton Co today after coming in from Durango, thus my insight into how the truck handles in the mountains. The exhaust brake kicks ????!

Not drove but have rode in one of the very newest 2500's. The interior still looks cheap and sits poorly compared to GM or Ford. Power is great and I'm sure towing with this power will be great. If you can like the Dodge part of the package, you will be tickled with it. I like the truck until I open the door.

Then yours is at least an informed opinion which you're certainly entitled to, although I really can't understand how a Laramie interior like ours could possibly have the word "cheap" applied to it. Of course, I've been pulling 5th wheels with Dodge duallies since 1996 and have never had to walk home or call for a tow either, so that's an important factor to me as well.
As always, it's each individual's money and each individual's choice; I'm glad options in truck selections exist.

Very glad you have have great service out of them. I have always liked Cummins. A very good friend of mine has had a lot of problems with his 2006 dually. He really don't need the truck and it basically gets babied. Seems lots of problems was with not really working the trucks. Now I would love to see a Cummins in a Ranch King coupled to an Allison. See I'm not prejudiced.

I would like to second the Cummings in the King Ranch with the Allison.
I will find out next weekend how the Ford trans works on a 7% grade.

you always bring that up, as if its rare not to have truck problems. ive been doing it with the SAME TRUCK since 99.
my brother buys a new truck every year.. needless to say, he never has troubles either. sometimes he dont even need an oil change.

Well, let's see, I've had a grand total of 3 trucks since 1996 - a 1996 Ram 3500 V-10/47RE automatic, a 2002 Ram 3500 Cummins HO/NV5600 6-speed manual, and our current 2011 Ram 3500. That doesn't exactly sound like I trade every year. You, of course, have the 7.3L Powerstroke in your truck, so I'm not surprised that it has been a reliable vehicle for you as well - it's an excellent engine.
If something about my statement offended you, I'm sorry, but perhaps we should take this to PMs if you want to continue the discussion as you and I are both in someone else's (the GMC 3500) thread.

Good luck on your trip, I love the trans on my 2005 F350, it's the 6.0 motor that I don't like. Ford should have recalled all of them for the price you pay. Its bad when you don't get what they say it is.
Thanks Again,

I have an 11 GMC 3/4 ton Sierra 11,000 miles so far have towed to Florida and Louisiana,06 Montana 319 BHS getting 11.8 miles on highway. Love the truck! Got rid of 06 F-350 too many problems could write a book. Go for the GMC you won't be sorry. Cograts on retirement.
