2015 F-150 4X4 odometer engaged when towing

I tow a F-150 with 4 wheels down which requires that the ignition switch be on. As a result the F-150 records towed mileage so I'm "artificially" adding miles to the vehicle which will affect its resale value when I sell it. Any solutions to avoid this issue?

Hard wire a switch into the fuse panel for the speedo/tach/odo and turn it off when you're towing. Takes less than 5$ and 15 minutes.

I'm not sure how common this is but if I purchased a used car and found that it was modified to turn the odometer off and on, I would seriously question the validity of the miles on the vehicle. How can you prove that you only turned it off while towing?

You can't. However, you're right, and I agree with you, that's not what he asked. I sensed no malicious intent in his mission so I gave him a legitimate option. The only option.

Anything can be taken and altered to benefit a fraudulent situation but that shouldn't stop us from sharing the information that helps many of us.

well, it is accumulating miles to an extent everything except the engine. It might help to record miles towed vs miles driven and pictures.

Are you turning the ignition switch/key as far as you can to the fully off position? It will not completely turn off as the transmission is in neutral however it should power down most of the devices and not allow the electronic speedo to accumulate miles.

I have the push button start and when I power down - everything is off when I follow the 4 down tow procedure in the owners manual.

ppworld-

I don't tow an F-150, but I can help by providing a link to a Google search of iRV2 posts with the terms "F-150" and "odometer" in them. Some searches have all the useful stuff "at the front"; in this one, it appears there are potential nuggets beyond the first page, although I did not look at them beyond what is shown.
