2018 Ram 3500 Dually VS 2019

What are the major differences between 2018 and 2019? I found a couple new 2018's that look pretty nice. Why would a dealer still have a 2018?

Thanks,
Rick

The 2019s have the new interior updates, a minor exterior facelift, amazing new headlights on the higher trims, stronger frame, CGI block and some engine/transmission tweaks, 12" ring gear and altogether larger rear end in the DRW, better progressive suspension in the non-air model, less NVH, more electronics (which are subjective)... but things like adaptive cruise are only available on the 2019s.

I test drove both, but there was no question of which was the nicer truck and that's what I came home with.

n0arp hit the nail on the head. I was only going to say stronger frame which may be noticable by the ride and iron graphite engine block which is stronger and lighter. Also much less NHV (Noise, Harsness, and Vibration). I think higher pressure injectors also.

Now, the 2018 is no slouch but my vote would be buy the 2019 as over the long run it will be easier to live with.

A complete overhaul. Just take a look at the stock photos, or go check them out at a dealer.

If the update mirrors the 1500 it is super nice. GM and Ford will need to try to match it but it will not be easy.

It is the same as the new 1500 interior.

Because the 2019's came out and got major updates. People stopped buying the 2018's when the 2019's came out, but dealers still had 18's to sell. It's called old stock. It's still a bran new truck. It's just been sitting on the lot since late 2017 or early 2018. I got a sweet deal on my motorcycle like that. Purchased it mid 2019, but it's a 2018 model. MSRP is around 8,000 and I paid 5500 for it. It just happened to be last year's model so it was hard for the dealer to sell. Everyone wants the new model. Old stock can definitely work in your favor.

The funny thing is when I first got into a 2017 I was impressed. I took a 2019 out this past Monday and thought it was nice but the differences didn’t hit me. I was paying attention to other things. I made an offer on a 2019 but it sold the day before. I found a couple of loaded 18’s and am very tempted to just go that route. When I look at the amount I’m willing to spend I sure get more bang for the buck. There are certain must haves (air leveling) that are difficult to find without going to an 80K+ MSRP.

Thanks,
Rick

That is just it, how much nicer can they make a truck? I like the interior and options on my 2017 F-250 Lariat. It has a nice interior. But is it as nice as the Ram...well no, it is not.

Two options I kinda want are adaptive cruise and air suspension. Ram hit a homerun with factory air suspension to level the truck after hooking up a 3,500lb pin weight 5th wheel. You can add after market air bags as the 2nd best thing I guess but air suspension from the factory wins the day.

Add a 3rd option I want is a front camera to go with the back camera.

The old trucks are no slouches but believe it or not...the new trucks are even better.

Something tells me you're not talking about a dashcam. You mean, like a camera that shows how close your front bumper is to things? Is that a thing now? Awe man, now I'm going to spend all day googling cameras.

Exactly, not a dash cam but a camera that shows the front bumper and forward. Just like the backup camera does. Yes, that has been a thing for about a year now. I 1st saw it on a 2018 F-150 upper trim level truck.

And FYI - you do know that the 2020 GM 2500/3500 trucks can be optioned with more cameras than you can shake a stick at? It even has a view that makes your trailer look kinda invisible. I think it has 6 or maybe even 8 cameras. None of them are dash cams.

I bought a '19 GMC about when the 2020s hit the lot and got what I wanted out of a '19, only it was steeply discounted. It will be worth about what I paid for it until about the time the 2020s get steeply discounted, then I'll flip it and get a 2020. I don't know the Rams like I do the GM products, but if you can steal a 2018 leftover it is still going to be a great truck and you will be in a position financially to flip it in the next year or two if you really want the newer version of the truck.
