Anyone own one of these for daily driving and towing?

I would like to hear from owners of the newer 3.0 EcoDiesel and find out what their average MPG is, towing and not towing. Also, overall impression of the truck!

The EcoDiesel is in a RAM. GM calls theirs the 3.0 Duramax. Reports on the inline 6 chevy engine are sparse. My son has the 3.0 EcoDiesel in a crew cab 1500 RAM. He can get 28MPG driving empty doing highway miles. Pulling his 5k# boat or 6k# cargo trailer, he averages 15 MPG which includes some mountain passes.

Have another friend that just bought A RAM with the EcoDiesel. He reported getting 18 MPG pulling his Vintage trailer (Houston area). I know this isn't GM feedback, but probably a useful comparison. I've read the 3.0 Duramax is a sweetheart.

My sister has the 3.0L duramax in her 1500 and she loves it. I am not sure what milage she gets exactly but she reports she is very very happy with milage (IIRC she said she was getting 30ish running down the highway empty). I have driven it a few times and thought it was a very nice powertrain with the 10 speed.

Thanks for the correction! It sounds like the Ram EcoDiesel gets good mileage also!

I test drove the GMC and Dodge Ram and liked them both.

I am seeing reports that the MPG is great, and I just wanted to verify with owners.

My impression is that there will be tons of them for sale when the oil pump drive belt will be due for replacement. That seems like an expensive maintenance item, something only an oddball Euro engineer might dream up.

I'm sure they run and pull well, as I'm sure fuel economy is very good for the type of vehicle. They will just be plagued with expensive maintenance and repairs, like all the modern diesels.

not a lot of folks will put enough miles on them to ever need it tho. one consideration if towing is that i think they are rated a little less capable.

To put that in perspective, the "tons" of used trucks for sale will have 150,000 miles on then as that is the GM service schedule to replace oil pump drive belt. Current price for the service is right around $1000.

a friend of mine has one, a crew cab and says he gets around 28-30 on the high way empty. it should be a little better than the 5.3 gas as its tork figures are higher but down on hp

The 3.0L/10 Speed combo is great. I just picked up a 2022 Tundra (non-hybrid) 1794 edition and have the option to swap it straight across for a loaded 2022 AT4 with the 3.0L when the truck comes in in the next month or so. The Tundra is really, really nice but the 3.0L is a such a nice power train I am leaning that way.
