Seems the 2020 Chevy and Ford and 2019 Ram's are going to be extra rock solid. Chevy will have a new 6.6 litre more powerful gasoline engine and today I saw Ford will in fact replace their 6.8 V10 engine with 7.3 litre V8 gasoline engine. Ford will also have a 10 speed transmission.

Good times ahead for rich truck buyers.

I was at Costco yesterday and they had a new 2019 GMC 1500 sitting out front. Sticker price was $67,000 but with the Costco discount you could buy it for 64,000.

Oh Goodie...I'll take two.

Where do people get their money these days?

Anyone find what Chevy has done to frame, brakes etc. to tow 35,500 lbs? I think that is an increase of 10,000lbs from the 2018.

And anyone find the cargo capacity?

7.3L V8 gasser. is close but not quite 460 territory.

35,500 is reg cab long bed diesel. prob not a very desireable stripped down model. 31400 for the crew cab youll run out of rear axle weight before towing capacity hits ya.

Just a general comment. It is really good to see Chevy challenge Ram and Ford. Also, how much better can these trucks get?

I bought my 2017 double cab GMC2500HD so it could fit in my 235 of garage length. Looks like that option is gone in the 2020 equivalent model that is 240 inches long.

Doesn't affect me for at least another 10 years. When I am retired and not using it as a daily driver I might not mind leaving the next one outside.

Interesting in that the payload difference between a 3500 and 2500 is only in the 500 pound range, not much.

The Chevy will NOT be rated to tow much over 24k in fifth wheel configuration. The 35,500lb rating is for lighter pin weight gooseneck only. Payload remains UNCHANGED. Dually CC payload will be between 5200 and 6000 lbs. 14000lb GVWR is still the ceiling. 2500HD payloads will be as low as 1600lbs on a CC High Country 4x4.

3500 HD DRW Improvements and changes include:
New frame
More cooling on the Duramax
One more helper leaf (DRW only)
3 inch longer cab
12 inch ring gear
Bigger U-joints
Brake controller in center stack
Auto 4x4 option
More cameras and expandable

No more Allison. Now a 10 speed mated to a lower final gear. That’s how she pulls the bigger weight up the grade in the SAE test.

Depends on what you are towing. My wife towed my 21,000 lb class 8 semi truck with me in it thru the mud for two miles over 7 short but steep hills. Added about 1 lb to the payload of our 2500 she was driving via the tow strap. We had a warm up after the polar vortex and snow and the gravel road turned to a total muddy mess. My semi steer axle just buried itself in the mud and the truck would not go anywhere. But the wife pulled me and the truck 2 miles thru that goo to the hard top road. That was a 2015 Chevy 2500 6.0L gasser with a tow rating of 13,500 lb on the hitch.

As was stated by another, I have no need of anything that Gm is kicking out in the next few years. I will let others be guinea pigs while GM works out the kinks. From what i have been reading about what GM is doing with the 6.6 gasser, I am not really sure I want one. Will have to wait and see all the actual details surrounding the motor.

I am in a wonderful predicament. No OEM on the planet is making anything that really causes me to want to take a look at their products. I think my last new purchase was my 2015 2500. Will probably just buy used from now on only when I actually need something.

14,000 pounds wasn’t the ceiling before. GM duallies have been 13,025. If it goes up to 14k you’ll get a payload increase so it will be in the same range as the Ram and Ford.

Sorry- lack of clarity and you are correct. I don’t really consider moving up to 14k much of an improvement. The point is none of them can rate over 14k GVWR in a 1 ton truck. That’s the max for any of them. That’s nowhere near what you would need to handle the pin weight of a properly loaded 35,000 pound trailer.

I watched a TFL truck video of the new Ram towing a 35,100 pound gooseneck flatbed. It was a stripped reg cab dually Cummins. The only option was power windows. The seven K plus payload was stated as only in the gasser. They didn’t give pin weight or axle weight.

My guess is the GM trucks will rate similarly... at 20% pin weight they need 7,200 pounds of payload... but that means the truck can only weigh 6,800 pounds. It’ll be interesting to see how they finagle the numbers. I don’t know... maybe a reg cab Cummins dually only weighs in at seven k stripped.

Regardless it is nice to see GM build a chassis to suit the Duramax Allison and compete. That 975 pounds may not seem like much of an improvement, but with fivers close to 25% pin weight that gives you room for aux fuel.

If they have dropped several hundred pounds in this makeover as have Ram and Ford they could beat them both by several hundred pounds on payload as they already had the lightest truck.

They have made some solid changes in cooling as well with a better oil cooler and high power fan with a dedicated pulley, enough to pull that stupid air dam up off the ground. AND the bed floor and bed rail is LOWER! This is a dream truck for people that pull big fivers. See Gale Banks video on cooling.

https://youtu.be/Z35ZThqcg6k

I agree the marketing seems deceptive, but Ram DID demo the max towing with a “commercial “ grade truck. For non commercial users the 35k is less important... but it is bragging rights and indicative of strength. You’ll note the videos of them towing with a CC is with a 16,800 pound Grand Design Solitude. A 20,695 pound Jayco Seismic has close to 5,300 pound est max pin weight putting last years Ram and Ford at max on the CC luxury models, and 900 pounds over the max payload on my High Country. At least now they can compete.

Between the cooling, ground clearance, adaptive CC, and cameras I could be tempted.

If it has two tanks with a 75 plus gal capacity my daughter can get married at the drive through chapel here in Vegas. I’m getting one in Red with chocolate leather interior!
