2020 F250 7.3L Gas Aux fuel tank options?

What options do I have for putting a +-50 gal auxiliary or transfer gasoline tank in my 2020 F250 with 5th wheel hitch?

The only one I see is RDS 45 gal rectangle which isn't bad but I don't like having to put a pump sticking up on one side.

Do you know of something I don't see?

I would really like something that is plumbed direct into the truck's fuel tank but I don't think this is deemed safe or legally possible with gasoline.

Thanks

Scott

Come to think about it I only see aux fuel tanks in diesel trucks but Google points me to this for gasoline tanks. I did not know there was such a thing.

I have a 40 gallon tank/toolbox in my gas truck. There was no install kit at the time so I fabricated one by modifying my filler neck. It is plumbed directly and gravity feeds the truck tank when I activate the switch and open the solenoid.

ALL emissions work 100%, no codes, check engine light etc. I used an RDS aluminium tank. It is certified for gas although they don't tout that anywhere, likely due to legal reasons in the USA.

Thanks for replies. I'll run it OEM for now to see how bad I really need the extra capacity. As it looks now, Ill be stopping every 3 hrs or so which really doesn't seem too bad. We shall see.

The problem may be finding gas stations that will allow access to the pumps. I could see getting trapped fairly easily at some gas stops. I don't see many that are designed to accommodate a big gas rig like you do with diesel. We haven't used a FlyingJ/Pilot/Whatever they are now for quite some time but some of them had an rv island with gas available.

Call this company (ATI Fuel Tanks). They can pretty much make whatever shape or size or capacity tank you want with custom placed filler neck and a gauge if you want.

I have 2 friends that got theirs there. The nice thing is it was close to where we all live so they saved a few bucks on transportation by picking them up.

I don't know if this happened more than once in the past 6 years we've had the tall 5th wheel. Most stations we just pass thru easily. Only issues we have are in very urban downtown areas with small convenience stores, but I have managed so far.

The extra 40 gallons allows us to find cheaper gas and fill up there. Pretty sure the tank has paid itself just due to this.

Question - how do you like your truck? Is the 10 speed smooth shifting or rough shifting. Is the transmission dialed in or need some better programming?

With only 1600 miles on the clock thus far, the jury is still out. A cold engine Idles at about 1200 RPMs then calms down to about 950 then down to 700. If I try to shift from park to reverse prior to the engine idling at 700 I get a fairly nasty "clunk" as though a U joint is loose.

My driving habits are extremely conservative and easy. I don't think the 10 speed tranny likes this as it seems to be always searching for the proper gear. If I drive it like a stole it, or, if I tow more than 5000Lbs, it runs smooth. I have only towed my 5ver about 10 miles. The truck seemed relieved that it finally had something to tow.

Humm - thanks for that information. I know what you mean when the truck is happier towing. I have a loop that I want to test drive the 7.3 then compare it to my current truck.

Sounds like you need to take your truck in to find the clunking sound and get that fixed.

I had a previous superduty truck that also idled at 1,100RPM when cold. I did not like that. My current superduty ideas ar 600 - 700 and is much more refined.

Thumbs up also interested

I, too, am curious about answers to this question. Recently upgraded from an 2019 F150 Lariat w/ 24gal tank to the F250 V8 with the 34gal tank and am curious if I'll get better range, but also investigating options to extend it further as we frequently take very long trips with our rig.

This states it's for the Powerstroke (diesel?) engine... does anybody know definitively if this will even fit the 6.75'-bed crew-cab V8 model?

Carb law

Gravity fed gasoline fuel tanks are not legal so not many want to deal with pull from top pump into filler neck, then route vent into oem venting just too many hoses out of top of aux tank. Diesel market is just sooo much easier to install. Labor might be as much as gasoline fuel tank. And rollover specs...pretty sure no gasoline auxiliary tank is legal in CA at this time so unless you want to do it yourself not much help out there. Tankandbarrel.com probably your best option.
