2020 GMC/Chevy

WE just purchased a 2020 GMC for a tow vehicle for our 5th wheel. General motors changed the puck system for this year. If you are pulling with one , what are you using. All the hitch companies say they have a hitch for this but with many of the suppliers being shut down due to the virus they are not yet in the retail market.

We bought a Curt A20 for our 2020 GMC 3500 with the factory pucks and are happy so far. I like how it shows green, yellow and red for status. Ordered it online back in the end of July and it was backordered but delivered 3 weeks later. Cannot go wrong with a B&W either but a buddy had the Curt so we gave it a go.

I use a B&W companion hitch with the factory puck system in a 2020 3500 DRW. It works great.

Only hitches designed for the 2020 truck fit due to the new lower frame rails , they moved the puck system they moved the pucks around some . THE Hensley BD5 is available and you should have it by the end of the week if you place a order. I bought one on yesterday , they are telling me even with the holiday I will have it by Friday next week. They are located in Michigan so its about the same time east or west from there shop. Call them there web page is hard to purchase the BD5 off of it. If your lighter then 16,000 you may consider the BD3 but Call them . The BD5 should be forward and backwards compatable with differnt year trucks by changing the side plates on the hitch if you need to change trucks or brands. I asked Arron G this question Friday , cost wise roughly $375 depending on what your doing.

The 2020 GM HD trucks got brand new frames to stiffen up the body. Longer wheels base but the new frame probably caused them to change the puck location and pattern.

the frame is a redesign was done in effort to lower the floor in the bed and still maintain the same amount of vertical wheel travel. They lowered the floor of the bed by 2" but raised the bed rails by almost the same amount. By raising the bed rails they didn't solve the issue for many owner where the nose high towing . This maybe something that get addressed with the 2021 body???? I wouldn't hold my breath on that.. The new trucks are so tall that I feel like the OEM's are trying to see who can make the biggest badest tow rigs but some how lost sight of our RV are already 13'-4" when they leave the factory. I hope I am able to adjust the hitch and pin box to maintain level on the coach.

Maybe I got lucky, but my Riverstone Fiver is dead level with 7-8" bed clearance with the B&W companion hitch set on the middle height setting on my 2020 GMC DRW.

x2. 2020 Riverstone dead level mid height adjustment on the Curt with about 7” clearance on the 2020 GMC dually. I was pleasantly surprised first hook up that it leveled out so well with that much clearance. The heavy pin probably helps as the truck squats down putting the truck bed perfectly level too just engaging the helper springs.

2021 gmc 2500hd

I know this post is quite old but I have a 2021 g m c 2500 HD standard 79.4" bed with the factory Puck system . My question is I'm trying to determine what hitch I need because of the bed length and having very much trouble with talking with hitch manufacturers. We have bought a 2022 5ver, a grand design reflection 311bhs. All the weights checkout and the dealer is telling me that I need a B&W RVK3775 slider but most of the various posts people say they don't need one however with the 2020 Puck system change I am being told that I have to have bed rails. Of course the dealer sells B&W. Any comments on this?

I think on the GM trucks the pin would sit 2" or so behind the axle instead of right over the axle. This should help some. Not sure but this is a geometry puzzle - right?

The purpose of the factory puck system is to avoid rails. So I call BS on that. My B&W companion hitch drops right into the pucks. It works great.

And I can't swear to this but I don't think you really need a slider with the 6.5' bed, especially if the front of your fiver is rounded a bit on the sides. With a 8' bed I have loads of room to spare and have room to put a honda es7000i generator in front of the hitch. But its hard to say for sure without hooking it up.

Call etrailer and get a second opinion.

I just copied this from a Q&A with trailer.

https://www.etrailer.com/question-495982.html

It looks like they have a slider that works with pucks and no rails.

Clarification

Please remember when you respond to these post about hitches people need to know whether you have a standard bed or a long bed. According to General Motors the 2500 and 3500 do not come with a short bed, something most people miss. We have a 2021 GMC 2500 HD with the factory Puck system. Our dealer is telling me that I need a B&W rvk 3775 which is a slider because I have a 6 ft 9 inch standard bed. Curt says I need an A16.

I have a 2002 2500HD with a 6.5' bed and use an Andersen Ultimate. I do not need a slider with this hitch. I have the ability to turn about 80 degrees, just have to watch the cab on real sharp turns.

The Ultimate has multiple configurations so it can be set up as needed for a particular application. Mine is on rails, but Andersen makes one for the puck system.
