Howdy!

When did USAA start this. I’ve been insured with then for a number of years and they have never mentioned a weight limit to be insured. I’ve had a MDT 4400 International Custom hauler they have insured and now a Chevorlet 3500 DRW Custom Hauler that’s well over the 14k rating and as stated they’ve never asked for that information.

If I read the towing guide correctly, see paragraphs on left, the listed weights already account for 150lbs per person in each available seat position. I believe you were deducting you & wife in your calculations. Each available seat position, does that mean 5x150lbs?

Yes, I was reading further and saw that it was already calculated and confirmed on ford forums that they include 5x150 in each seat already for it.

But now after reading more, it seems like we are going to go with the F450 due to better turn ratio. The turn ratio's and peoples comments regarding how much better the F450 is at maneuvering than the 350 have sold us. Time to put the order in and wait 4-5 months (hopefully).

Time to start getting used to driving a dually, thankfully her family was born into trucks.

I am not really sure, we called this morning and went back and forth with the lady on the phone, she was adamite that they wouldn't insure a truck at 14k GVWR or above. She told us they had no restrictions on an RV, but the truck was a no-go for them

I will try again tomorrow and see if we get the same response from a new agent.

Looks like the 13k GVWR package is fine, physical changes or not

Not sure what trailer model you're looking at but here's what I run with my trailer. We've got a 40ft Cedar Creek (model 36CK2). When we tow, fully loaded with propane, batteries, "stuff" and a little bit of fresh water, the trailer weighs in at 13920lbs. Pin weight is 2880lbs or 20.7% of trailer weight. We're 500lbs heavier than the printed "dry" weight and 300lbs heavier than the printed "pin weight". Towed for 1yr with a F350 SRW, 11,500lb GVWR Platinum edition and we were slightly overweight but not over on any of the axle weights. Upgraded to an F350 DRW, 14k GVWR and all is good. I would think all should be good with a 13k GVWR.

Forgot to mention, our trailer has the washer / dryer option installed in the front and my truck had a big, heavy Pullrite Superglide sliding hitch and a 56gal Titan tank in place of the factory 26gal tank. I'm sure if we didn't have these 3 things, the trailer / truck combo would have come in at or below GVWR.

I just got an online quote using an f-450 VIN. Also called and got a quote on the phone.

The only weight changing option I know of is to select an option to go up to a 11,400 GVWR. Otherwise I think the standard GVWR is 10,000.

I know with State Farm they uncharged me for the heavier weight class (11,400). I didn't know that would happen but would do it again.

Does USAA not let you do this? What if you had an F450, would USAA insure that?
The OP is considering an F350 DRW, not an F250. Standard GVWR is 14,000#, Ford offers a game playing registration/insurance option to reduce the GVWR to 13,000#.
So the big question is what if Chou get the 13,000# GVWR and you are in a crash and it can be proven your truck was over the 13,000# does USAA cover you? Do they cover then cancel.

Are you sure it isn't 14,001 or above? It sounds like someone was confused...

Honestly, that's what got me, I'm 90% sure said over 14,000lbs, I probably should have fought harder on that. Going to have to call back didn't have time.

That's good to know, I appreciate it, I am going to call again today as I didn't have time yesterday to get it done. Will have to clarify that others have had it done I guess. As I said above, I'm 90% sure she said over 14k, but wasn't in the rebuttal mood to fight her on it.

The 2nd issue that might have happened is I don't have a VIN to provide, just words, so maybe it just threw her off completely.
