2023 Ford Super duty - new ??
Anyone know what to expect? Is the whole truck new, meaning frame and body panels or just a refresh of the existing truck.
I read that the new 2023 no longer has 6.2 Boss engine but a new 6.8 litre gas engine. Any truth to this?

Reveal date is the 27th. No huge mechanical/stuctural/body changes AFAIK. New 6.8 pushrod engine replaces the base 6.2. Optional Powerstroke package to eke ahead of the new GM's 1085 ft lbs just to keep the marketing edge. Added tailgate cam when gate is down. New birds eye view for truck and trailer. Optional built in 2kw powerpack. Built in payload scale (that one, I would like) .....and a new grill design.....oh and bed step behind cab like the chevies.......we'll know more on the 27th, but thats latest talk.

Some of those are cool little touches. The 6.8 litre push rod gas engine to me is a puzzle. It has to up the power close to the 7.3 gas engine. That just does not make sense. Also I read numerous times that getting a new engine certified by the EPA is not easy... I now wonder why Ram stopped the 7.0 litre Banshee engine?
It will be interesting in a few days when everything is announced.

I have also read there might be a digital dash on Lariat and above, much like the F150. I really hope that's not correct. Just give me dials, I can figure out the rest. I've seen a few of the camouflaged pictures floating around. I'm sure the look will grow on me. It's certainly not ugly, just a change. And you know how much we men love change! I really like the bed step. I thought GM hit a home run with that idea.

Yesterday I used my Ford bed step and thought GM had the better idea. The Ford idea from 2011 was great until I saw the GM idea. There is a bunch of complexity to the Ford design. That has to cost a lot to make.
I am not a fan of the digital dash either. But if that is the trend I guess I got to be dragged along in to the future. Oh wait - I had a digital dash in my 1987 Cougar XR7.
I was hoping for a slightly longer wheelbase and a new frame. Oh well we will see in a few more days.

A new 6.8 pushrod engine will cut costs and allow better "base engine" marketing claims.....I think they may well boost the 7.3 output a bit to make spending the extra $2k more enticing. We'll see.....I'd just get the 7.3 anyhow

It will be interesting if they boost the torque and HP of the 7.3 as they should. I doubt they will go too crazy like adding a super charger or turbo. They will figure out the magic numbers.
I test drove the GM 6.6 gas engine and liked it a bit better than my Ford 6.2. The GM 6.6 gas engine will be the target to beat with the 6.8.

Longer wheelbase? Mine is 176" and I'm still adjusting from my QC 8' box Ram's shorter wheelbase.
What is the issue with the frame that you'd like to see something changed?

Usually in a full redesign the frame is improved with a slightly longer wheelbase and maybe 1 more cross member on the frame. My 2017 F-250 short bed has a 160" wheelbase, a F-150 with a 8' bed has a 163" wheelbase.
Tomorrow is the day when we will know about the engines. I am guessing the diesel will have 1,100 ft. lbs of torque. After all the new GM diesel is saying 1,085 ft. lbs. of torque.
I do not know who needs all that torque unless towing a Luxe 5th wheel or a 25,000lb big skid loader on a 8,000lb. trailer.
I will be curious about the gas engines too. I am guessing 525 ft lbs. from the 7.3 and 470 ft lbs of torque from the new 6.8. Ford need to beat GM's 464 ft. lbs.
Anyone else have any predictions?

My truck's wheelbase is plenty thank you very much! Any longer and it will take up two parking stalls. I don't think the frame needs any additional cross bracing or reinforcement either. I agree on the 1100 ft lbs (like it matters! - anything approaching those numbers is twice what you need). I don't think the 7.3 will go that far; maybe 450hp and 500 ft lbs.

Maybe the best updates that we could hope for on the updated Super Duty would be a new lower price and lots of availability. I would be more than happy to have the rest stay the same. But we all know that's not going to happen.
