I think of course there are those that cant keep their hands out of it. Folks will tune these 1000 ftlb motors to the point of blowing them up..just because they can..again I'm happy with my detuned 6.7..I've never felt like I needed
more..I'm not rolling coal or doing burnouts.
I'll leave that to the kids..and the adults that have not grown up.. This thing hauls my home
So I try to take care of it..

I just put money down yesterday to get in queue to order a F350 7.3L. Ford is all sold out for 2022. Orders can’t be placed with the factory for 2023’s until about Oct/Nov. Won’t have a new truck until sometime next year.

IIRC it's something like 350hp and 650 torque.
I pull an 11k gvwr trailer and maybe 1000 lbs of
Stuf in the truck. I have never felt underpowered on any western range we've crossed ..So yes it's the same 6.7 cummins as the 1000 ft lb HO just detuned. I guess it's just a matter of oneupmanship with the big 3..
Everyone buys the same diesel fuel

It was my recollection that the horsepower what dropped to 350 but the torque stayed at 800 pound feet.

A few things I want to mention.
1. It is good to have completion as the trucks from Ram, Ford, GM are getting better.
2. Maybe with 10 speed transmissions you need more power to keep the truck in the higher gears.
With the old 6 speed transmission I know my truck would tow mostly in 5th and 6th gears. With the 10 speed transmission you need more power to keep the truck towing in 8th and 9th gear.

You're conclusion is incorrect.

The thread was about diesels, but I believe you're correct about the GM HD gassers.

You guys are missing the point talking horsepower, its torque that sets diesels apart, my 2014 Gas 6.2 and my neighbors 2014 6.7 powerstroke, both have about the same HP, gas 385, Diesel 400., Torque gas 400, Diesel 900....

With the 10 speed the .632 od 10 gear puts the engine at a lower RPM on the highway. With the chevys 3.42 rear gear any grade causes it to shift gears when towing. I did a 1400 mile trip with a 2020 chevy 3500 4x4 dually pulling a 13400 lb fifth wheel. It pulled great but shifted allot due to running at 1600 rpm or so at 70 MPH. With my 2017 F350 6 speed .674 and 4.10 gears keeps me around 2000 RPMs at 70 mph. I stay in 6th gear most of the time on the highway. I actually got better mileage then the 2020 chevy. 8.3 mpg vs Fords 9.8 mpg pulling a 13500 lb fifth wheel. If you had more torque it may hold 10th gear but the rear gears really hurt the chevys performance. If I got a new 2022 Ford it would have the 4.10 gears. That would help the 10 speeds on highway performance. Granted unloaded the chevy got 2 MPG better them my ford but I tow 95% of the time with mine.

You do not want it in the higher overdrive gears when towing. A common practice is to 'lock out' the OD gears. On a Ford 10 speed, it is 8-9-10. On a Ford 6 speed, it is 5-6.

I never lock out any gears. My truck stays in 6th gear at 70 mph cruise control on towing my 13500 lb fifth wheel. Now when I ordered my F350 dually I got 4.10 gears. It keeps me around 2000 RPM were it is making max torque and my boost just comes up on a hill. I don't second guess the ECU. My friend with the 2020 Chevy does the same thing pulling his fifth wheel. His does shift but it is designed to do that. When I tow with my 06 Dodge Ram 3500 I never lock out 4th gear. I just towed 10000 lb car trailer and ran cc at 70 mph. It does shift on a hill but in tow haul it keeps the torque converter locked in 3rd gear. 155545 miles and it still has the stock trans.
