350 SRW or 350 DRW OR 450 HELP

Hello, looking for some input, I will be buying another truck this week, I have a 2015 F 350 King Ranch short bed with a 6.7 and a 18k pullrite slider. I am towing a 1234 Spartan toyhauler with a GVW of 18k, I know if Im fully loaded im illegal, I think my truck is rated for 15,400 fifth wheel, but the truck pulls it with no issues and I have 3;55s I do have a tuner and no delete, but hp was never a problem when stock, was just trying to get a little better mileage. So yesterday I looked at several trucks, first was a 19 450 limited with 7k for 76K (wow) it was a awesome truck, I couldnt believe the ride, we have 450s and 550s at work and I cringe when I get in one because they ride so bad when unloaded. Next was a 18 450 King ranch and I dont know why, but it didnt ride as nice as the limited, it was ok, but at 70k it needs to ride better lol. Next was a 19 350 srw limited which was awesome and will legally haul 20k fifth wheel, so I made a deal with them and need to finish some paperwork this week before the deal is done. Well today before we left Lancaster with the camper we went back to the dealership because there was a 18 350 drw king ranch 12k miles for 66k the limited is 65k with 22k on it. I dont want to make a mistake and be sorry I didnt buy the drw another factor is I will be swapping my plow from my 15 to whatever I get, I only plow my house and family, not commercially. I guess my question is, has anyone wish they went with a dually after they bought a srw? I like the look of the dually, but dont think I need it, I have only ever towed all my fifth wheels with srw trucks and have never had a issue, plowing would be easier with a srw, I believe the dually has 3:73s and I know the limited has 3;55s, but I only notice it when I get in the mountains, but its not bad. Any input from someone who has been in my situation would be greatly appreciated. I mean if the price wasnt a issue I would have left yesterday with the 450 limited lol PS the truck sits in my driveway all week, I only use it when we go camping, most trips are with in 200 miles of home and 1 time a year to FLA and back so we are not full time yet, maybe in about 10 years we will be.

Yep, I can stop reading right there. You're getting a dually. I'd recommend the F450. That wide track front end is nice. F350 dually will also handle things just fine, but the 450 is more manageable in town. 450s are harder to find though. You'll be happy with either of the duallies. You won't be happy with the SRW though. You will be overloaded. The "5th wheel tow rating" in the towing guide doesn't take pin weight into consideration. That's what's going to kill you.

Trust me. Go with a dually. Everyone here is going to tell you the same. You are well into dually territory with that 5th wheel. And that's coming from a guy who doesn't have a problem going a little over on your weight ratings.

Look more at payload than towing capacity. At 18k I imagine the pin weight and hitch eat up most of the available payload on the SRW. I know the newer ones have more capacity but think you will be around 3500 in pin weight alone if fully loaded.

My 19000 lb Voltage has 3500 on the pin (scaled). I wouldn't tow with less than a 350 dually.

What are your weights?

Sounds like you don't have the whole story yet as you didn't mention them. Your likely in dually territory, but I would visit a CAT scale first so you know exactly how much truck you need. Then go shop payload stickers at the dealer.

My 2012 F-450 was easier to park than my 2017 F-250. You will love the turning radius on the wide track F-450.

A SRW truck should not even be considered IMHO.

I went with a dually because i didnt want to have to go bigger and i have no problem driving a dually. Jokes on me, im browsing class 7s and 8s casually now.

Heres my take on these trucks, i wouldnt bother with a 3/4 ton, just go to a 1 ton srw, theyre the same size dimensionally (i know you arent looking at 250s). The new drw trucks arent very different. Same model front and rear ends, same size, just get the 450, it has a lower payload than the 350 but thats bs anyway.

I personally feel the new trucks have such an awful ride that if i needed something in that could pull that much id just get a single axle volvo semi truck with an auto. My old 350 drw has a nice ride. It really soaks up the miles. Anything built within the last few years im just tired of the crap ride and getting the crap beat out of me.

Theres my take on it, either the 450 or a 7/8 rig. Sorry for being long winded.

Yeah, that wide track turning ratio was ridiculous, I pulled into a wawa on the test ride and it turns way tighter than my shortbed 350, just trying to justify the 11k more for the 450 vs the 350 drw, but the 450 would be my last truck for a very very long time

They make other trim levels aside from king ranch and limited. Have for a long time actually. Heck, even a lariat has more crap in it than i want to deal with.

I dont have my pin weight, but the gvw on the toyhauler says 18k and according to Fords site, my 2015 fifthwheel max is 15 something, I cant remember right now, so I beleive, if I was fully loaded I would be over.

I would go with the dually. I went from a 2006 Dodge 3500 srw to a 17 F350 drw. I have 2500 lbs of pin weight. Maxed out my Dodge. I was at tire load. I looked at the F450 price was higher. Wide track front end is nice but the ride was harder then the F350. Towing was +1500 lbs but bed load was 1500 lbs less. Both were 14000 lb gvwr. I got 4.10 gears. I pull at 65 mph. Runs 1920 rpms. F450 only has 4.30 gears. I am very happy with my F350, pulls my 41 ft fifth wheel great. It only comes out of the garage when I tow my camper. I also wanted tpms. F450 does not have that. I also got the tpms for my camper with the F350. I just got it set up. Hope this helps.

$11,000 is a serious consideration. It ends up being even more than that if you're financing. Probably closer to $20,000. If you notice in my signature, I've got a 350. I've taken it through downtown Nashville, and through Hot Springs Arkansas, and it's never been a problem. Parallel parking being the only exception to that. Those hips are wide, but you'll have the same hips on a 450.

Check out autotrader and other vehicle selling websites. You might find a good deal. That's where I found mine. You might be stuck driving a bit to make the better deal, but if it saves you that $11,000, it'll be worth the drive.

My problem is, I went from a 97 350 crew, 7.3 lariat to a 2010 250 6.4 crew cab lariat then to a 15 350 king ranch, all used trucks, but I never thought I would like, cameras, heated and cooled seats and all the ginger bread, but now I wont go backwards lol. The older I get, the more I like the stuff, my wife said duallys look stupid, you should have seen me trying to pry her out of the 450 limited haha. I need to get my pin weight, but I do remember something like 3500lbs and I need to look at the 350 srw capacity, ps I want a dually even if it looks stupid haha I drive them everyday at work, 450 and 550s regular cab 4x4 with a 10 ft aluminum flat beds used for hauling boats and if you dont have weight on them, they are torture to drive, this 450 limited unloaded was one of the best riding trucks i have ever been in, besides like a 1500 z71 or something like that. what was odd was the 18 450 king ranch didnt ride as nice, wasnt bad but not the same, I wonder what is different in a limited, besides the price haha
