Looks like the 6.7 Cummins is here. Here is some info via a link I borrowed from another site.

http://www.everytime.cummins.com/every/pdf/4103902.pdf ]6.7 Cummins 2007

Rumors are there are two Dodge Trucks to show up at the Chicago Auto Show later this month.
It may be the 4500 and 5500 trucks.

Hope the link works, 4 page .pdf file.

no garrantee that will show up in a pick up, the size of the radiator is the limiting factor for engine size and power in a production pick up, just aftermarket mods that increase power also increase heat production beyond what a OEM would be comfortable including in a warranty. That is really what sperates LDT pick ups from MDT's and HDT's besides the lack of durability in trans and rears.

Here's a link to ALLPAR for the Dodge 4500 and 5500 Medium Duty Trucks. Looks like Freighliner will be the chasis.

Here is another AllPar link that looks like a wolf in sheeps clothing or a single screw Dodge RV Hauler under a sheet.

OK, I admit, I'm a little excited about the possibility that a real RV Hauler in a Class 4 or 5 truck and the possiblity of a Class 3 may be just around the corner.

I'm maxed out with my fiver right now. I could turn her up to 750 ftlbs of torque for 400 bucks, but, the 6 speed tranny (NV5600) is rated at 650ftlbs of torgue on the imput shaft.
Would need to change the clutch, put an exhaust system on, guages, and hope it don't tear the tranny up.

So, yeap, I'm Drooling.

Dave,
My rig weighs in a touch over 16,000 and I'm having no problems with everything pure stock. That puts me about 1000 over my GCWR. Just make sure your brakes are in good condition and have a good controller like the Jordan. I am very happy with the combination and it sure is a lot cheaper than that new one is going to be. Now, quit reminding me about it, will you. Concentrate Bob - - I am happy - - I am happy - - I am happy.

Hey Dave, any idea what colors will be available?

DroolingBob

I am surely out of my league here, but just as curious about the "unveiling" of those trucks. I recently decided to stop playing around with pick-ups and finally bought a truck-a 2006 3500 Megacab 4X4 with the high O/P Cummins turbo diesel and the 6-speed manual tran. I tow a 34 ft keystone copper canyon TT and figure I can grow into something bigger later given the capability of the rig. Looking for any pointers or advice for a first time Cummins owner. I have broken it in by the book, and have about 2600 miles on it to include 550 towing at 50MPH (per the book). If you have a minute, I would be much obliged. Thanks.

Marine Camper,

Hope you are a Jarhead and not camping underwater. Semper Fi.

Your Megacab is a good rig, and you have alot of capabilities. But I have a 2001 2500 with a HO 6 speed, and even with the dually option on the Megacab, I could not do better than the factory ratings I have on my 2001 (I know, I have test driven the Megacab and seriously considered trading up).

I'm sure you are OK, and can grow if you want. But the growth will be at your own risk - DC will not sanction it with the Megacab towing ratings.

The Mega Cab has a combined towing capacity of 23,000 lbs. (truck and trailer) or a trailer of 15,500lbs.

See http://www5.dodge.com/vehsuite/TowingGuide.jsp

The 2001 Dodge has a towing capacity of 20,000 lbs (combined) and trailer weight of 13,450 lbs. see
http://silverdodge.dodgeram.org/2001/towing-charts.html

and http://www.klenger.net/arctic-fox/weight/index.html

There is one location that gives the combined for my truck and the 2001 as 21,500 lbs. This rated with a 4:10 rear only. 3:55 was 20,000lbs.
These are factory ratings and as we all know they will tow almost anything. Stopping it is the determining factor in the rating.

As far as towing with the Mega Cab, the tranny you have will give you about the same ratio as if you had a 4:10 rear. The OverDrive ratio was dropped. You can't order a 4:10 with the six speed manual tranny. You can with an automatic.

I think the tow rating on the Mega Cab is limited by its length. If it was a full 8ft bed the rear axle would be further back in my opinion. As mentioned above the possibility of a Class 3 hauler is possible if the Mega Cab is stretched and the 6.7 Cummins is installed.

Your Mega Cab will run as long as you own it. The engine will probably outlast the body.

My truck has 155k on it and it tows the same now as it did when it had 50k on it. So mileage is not a factor unless you want to trade up.

I personally don't like the Mega Cab Dually because it offers no room in the bed for want I like to carry. (personal preferanc) I love the cab and hate the fender flares.

I'm sure you will enjoy your truck. Just remember there are some first generation cummins dodge trucks out there still pulling a 34ft fiver and some with well over a million miles on them.

Dave

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>The maximum GCWR for a 2nd generation Dodge Ram was 21,500 lbs. This required the Cummins HO diesel, 6-speed NV5600 transmission and 4.10 rear axle ratio. That's the package we selected when we ordered our truck.

As you said, the 3.55 axle ratio yielded a GCWR of 20,000 lbs.

Dave, thanks much for the information-and yes, I am a "jarhead" as they say, and couldn't think of anything else I'd rather do besides dragging a trailer around the greatest and most beautiful country in the world. I used to love sleeping in a tent (until I had to do it for 60 plus days with out a shower before crossing the berm from Kuwait into Iraq). After 2 trips to that He#$-Hole, I like to go RVing! (rather than just camp). I was able to locate a towing guide that came out in the Jan Trailer Life magazine and 15,500 is what they said it I could tow. I have the single rear wheel, so I am a little limited, but I was like you when I saw those fenders-I did not like it. The cab is unbelieveablely huge and even with my 3 boys and the yellow lab there is still plenty of room. The short bed, which is the only way it comes until they build a bigger frame, I was told requires a "floating hitch" to accomodate a fifth wheel. When they told me the hitch was about $2500, and the Keystone Laredo we were looking at was a bit more than we wanted to spend, we opted to stick with the TT and traded up from our 03 Frontier RV Explorer to an 06 Keystone Sprinter Copper Canyon-which we love. I had heard that there is some type of "chip" that you can install to increase fuel economy in the Cummins, is this true? I am getting around 16 MPG (11 when towing) and wonder what I can expect in the future. I take it that since you know "Semper Fi" that you have done some time?
