Got a Ford 250 diesel pulling a 29' 5th wheel. Everything handles fine, but my truck does sit down a little too much in the rear. I've decided to go with air bags to get her back up. Did'nt think I wanted the on board air compressor, but I know it would be handy to adjust the air.

My question is: Can you hook this compressor up where it can be used for other purposes that adjusting the shocks??

It depends on the size of the compressor.

I have a Pac Brake exhaust brake that is powered by a small engine mounted electric compressor with an air tank. I can use this to fill the air bags on my trailer (Trail Air suspension and Pin Box). I was going to put bags on my truck before I bought the trailer, but the truck sits perfectly without them when loaded. I can also run air horns (which really get people to quit talking on their cell phones when they pull out in front of you).

The compressor itself is too small to inflate a truck tire, but it can do bicycle tires, air mattresses ,etc.

I've seen an engine mounted / engine driven air compressor on TDR (I think by Kilby?) that supposedly can inflate tires, too, but it requires some "adjustments" of things under the hood to fit. I don't know if they have such a kit for Fords.

Maybe someone else can chime in?

Dagwood 55 My son put a 12v compressor on top of the crossmember for the transmission. There is enough room there for one bog enough to have an air tank. We put the power relay under the hood on the fender well. He also wired it so he could inflate the airbags individually for balance. And yes he plumbed in a quick disc for an air hose but it leaked so he ha to come back and put a cutoff valve for that. Boy my grammar is terrible.

On my previous Dodge Ram 1500 I installed a set of Air Lift Air springs with the Load Controller I. I mounted the small 12V compressor in the tool box in the bed, and had a swith and presuure gauge in the cab to control air pressure in the bags. It worked perfectly. I felt the convienince of being able to adjust them easily was worth the money for the onboard compressor.
