A rib M+S such as Michelin defender will give you better fuel mileage because of less rolling resistance.Block tread due to it's design will provide less wear because when towing it is not the most friction free design. I had those same Generals and they suck for mileage and ride.

I actually did some tire rack performance on the General HTS. They rated in the top 3 so I bought 2 new tires for the front of my truck. I kinda liked the HTS.

In my opinion they were entirely unremarkable and they wore quickly. That said, so are the BFGs - so the fast wear may just be a 8000lb + towing vehicle thing

Our trucks have 5,000lbs on the front two tires all the time. I only got 28,500 miles out of my front. Will get 45,000 mi out of the back dually tires. I have 20,000 miles towing on the back tires.
