I seem to be leaning towards the F-350 and the Silverado 3500..... It is illegal to remove emission equipment. We can't do it in Pima County AZ as some zip codes must emission check. People remove them to get more power and increase fuel mileage. The DPF is cleaned while driving using extra fuel dumped into the exhaust to create really high temps. Prior to 2013 those vehicles did not use Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) so one could remove the DPF, block the EGR, and reprogram the ECM using a diesel tuner. If done incorrectly you will have check engine lights on all the time.

Yours is a '14 that uses DEF. The 4th gen 6.7 up to '12 used a DPF and diesel instead of DEF for regen. Mileage was not good.
My father's '12 3500 DRW with 4.10 gears averaged under 13mpg highway empty when stock. 17 after delete.
I don't know about the Ford and chevy, other than they never had the diesel regen like RAM. I do know the 6.4 Powerstroke used up to 2011 didn't get very good mileage either.
Another thing to remember is all this modern diesel emissions equipment can go bad and will more than likely need to be replaced or deleted eventually. Knowing how much it costs to delete it I don't even want to know what that bill to replace it would run.

Anything can break. You didn't quote the other part of my post, which was...
If it ain't broke,...
(usually followed by)
... don't fix it.

If you plan on drag racing, off road competition, or other very HP intense uses, you could invest in the DPF and EGR delete kits. Don't try to register it in California, I don't think it's O.K. there. These kits are expensive and not sure you'll ever get your money back out in fuel savings or engine durability. The word 'need' is very open ended, don't know that you'll 'need' the modification, a lot of folks do it to show their contempt for EPA and 'govmnt' regulations.

VW did it by computer programming, these kits go way beyond that, they are pretty obvious when installed.

He was asking about the 6.7 up to 2012.
It may not be broke, but the emissions systems greatly reduce the fuel efficiency. clogged DPF are not uncommon on these systems and replacement is not inexpensive. a fuel mileage gain of 25-30% can be achieved.
My comment about the emissions systems eventually needing to be replaced was to show that a delete or replacement may be necessary in any event if purchasing a used vehicle with higher mileage or unknown usage.
