Battery Saver Mode... '14 Ram 2500

So, spring has sprung, but winter is trying desperately to hang on. So Saturday it was 31 degrees and my truck wouldn't even turn over. I got out my battery charger and let it run for a while. Started the truck and went to town to get batteries checked... and replaced. When I pulled away, the idiot light for the charging system came on and then it flashed "battery saver mode". Looking on Ram and diesel forums hasn't helped much. I'm considering getting the alternator checked. I've checked the battery voltage myself with the truck running and it's only 11.8 vdc. It should be above 12vdc even at idle... It should be mentioned that the young man that replaced the batteries did it one at a time, and got a wrench across the + and - and got a big spark... I'm wondering if he ruined the alternator or voltage regulator when this happened.

Anyone have experiences with this? Is the ECM learning about the new batteries, or is my alternator shot. I guess I'll go have it tested...

There is a master fuse in the charging system 100+amp , not sure where it is in a 2014 , I retired in 07 , but check in the under hood power distribution/fuse/relay box ; I've seen these fuses blown by people changing oil filters on the Cummins engine with a metal filter wrench, and touching the alternator power cable.

Running, you should see 13+ volts at battery. IMNSHO, your alternator is toast, but check your fuses. You may get lucky.

If the battery is fully charged the voltage while running should be around 14.4 volts or so. If not voltage maybe a little higher until its charged. At rest at little over 12 volts. Have the alternator checked.

Here's a picture of the fuse on an older distribution center ; yellow circle.

Red cable; lower in photo; runs to batteries + terminal , black to alternator.

Thanks for the replies.... I found it. Sorry no pics, but on the + post of the starboard battery, there are 2 each 250 amp fuses. I tested them with a meter and found the front one open. Went to the dealer here in town and it was a shade less that $20-... Problem solved... Thank God I didn't have to spring for an alternator.
