Blue Ox hitch/sway bar maintenance

I've got a 4 year old Blue Ox hitch/sway bar that's in need of some winter maintenance. I've taken good care of the hitch and always remove it when not in use and do my best to keep it protected. But thru wear and tear on the road much of the original paint has either worn off or some surface rust has appeared over the years. I used some rust remover earlier and this did a good job of removing but has left parts of the hitch bare metal and in need of paint. So wondering if anyone's got any suggestions or ideas on painting? I've used primer and metal paint on my hitch and wonder if I'm wasting my time trying to do anything with the hitch. Thoughts appreciated.
