That 3,300lb payload is really incredible. The Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi I test drove yesterday was very nice, quiet, smooth truck and had an amazing 3,300lb cargo capacity. That had to do with the 4.10 gearing I was told.

Thanks to Normal_Dave I got to test drive this truck as he was the one that found it.

Dave - you know what year Ram started the 6.4 Hemi in the 2500 and 3500 trucks?

Just for fun, if you get back to the central US, here's a new Big Horn 6.4L Hemi with an AEV Prospector upfitter package. (paging forum member GoLeafsGo to the courtesy desk please).

Speaking of Oregon, we hope you've toured the Outdoors RV plant in LaGrande, OR, and chosen on of their trailers as your 10K GVWR camper, added the X4 Off Road package, etc. If you don't have the right dealer, Thompson RV in Pendleton is quite popular around the forum.

Haha, we did pick an Outdoors RV as our ideal setup! How'd you know! We're planning on touring the plant in a few weeks.

I just checked. 2014 is the 1st year some Rams were built with the 6.4litre gas engine. Also I saw a 2014 Ram 2500 Diesel for sale with just 55,000 miles on it with an asking price of $35,000. That means a Ram 2014 6.4 gas engine could be bought for way under $35,000. My guess is $27,000 or lower.

X2 on the Ram Tradesman. You can get a 2016 for roughly $30k with all the bells and whistles you need.

Not many trailers with ~ 6K dry and 10K GVWR designed to go where you want to go. The minute you said Bend, OR, if you hadn't already chosen one, you had better be gettin' with it... People go all the way across the country to buy them.

Now, you need to spend a little time here:

Edit: ORV and Tundra towing story:

long threads, but worth the study.

One big differece Goleafs is not looking for budget friendly. Goleafs is looking at the crazy nose bleed expensive trucks.

Get the newest truck that your 30k can buy.
If you can buy a 2016 Ram 6.4 Hemi 2500 that is going to be a lot of bang for your dollar. With 4.10 gears that truck will probably handle your next bigger trailer too.

And I split the difference. But I have 4 kids and wanted 3 rows. To the OP, are you stopping at one kid? Because rear seat room becomes the issue if you get one kid in a rear facing carseat and another in an infant capsule. If you're going to go truck shopping and plan on having two kids, make sure you get hold of a capsule and carseat (borrow, buy used, whatever) and make sure they'll both fit with the front seats still in a comfortable position...

The Ram Mega Cab, meaning the larger passengers cab size and big back seat area I would think it has more room than the second row of a SUV. The Mega Cab or Crew Cab from Ford is the most common cab configuration.

Didn't know that used Dodges could be had for so little bit of $. Around here I got a deal on a used certified 2014 F-150 Platinum 3.5l EcoBoost for $40k with 23k miles. Cheap ones were 35k & weren't EcoBoost or that low of miles. Sure weren't Platinums either.

Sorry, completely missed that one. 2014. Proven design now.

Here's an interesting story regarding the new 6.4L, back in 2014, on another forum. Pictures gone thanks to photobucket mischief. The thread really got me to thinking, then I noticed the Tradesman package, and how many dealers added a package or two, and you had a nicely dressed 2500 for about $ 35K at season end.

Exactly. I think if he buys any truck other than a Ram Mega cab, he'll be trading it in once kid #2 comes along.

MTK46 - Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler have always been really good used prices. They have a history of higher than normal depreciation. Ram is in that same boat for now. As they build better trucks maybe that will not be the case.

Nice truck, those F-150 3.5L Eco-Boost platinum trucks are almost too nice. Not sure what your next truck can be?
