Center line ts set up?

Wanted to run a question by everyone.

This is my first tt and towing anything with profile to it. Was coming home today on the interstate in 40+ mph wind and man it was a white knuckle drive even at 55 (in a 75) it was sway city and I mean a lot!

I had set up this hitch by the book, even had the correct torque wrench. Wondering if it’s just a case of not enough load on the bars? I bumped up the brackets another notch on the trailer and it seems to help just driving around town but it introduced more “ripple” between the truck and trailer going over bumps. I will say I can hear the bars now with the extra tension while there was next to none before.

My tt is a mini drop

I've been using that hitch for several years, set up by the instructions, and no issues.

When you say sway, do you mean you could feel the wind buffeting the trailer and pushing it around? True sway is a condition where the trailer swings side to side, and increases if no action is taken by the driver.

40+ mph winds might be the problem, rather than the hitch setup. You may just be unfamiliar with the feel of a high profile trailer in side winds. How does the trailer tow in normal conditions?

FWIW, I never tow faster than 65-70 regardless of conditions.

Yea the trailer was moving pretty good there where a multiple points I had to power through it or hit the trailer brakes. I have had the wind push me around a bit but the trailer was driving the truck. I’m not in much of a hurry towing but I had yet to have a problem in the 65mph range. Burned me pretty good that at least a dozen 1/2 ton trucks with campers passed my like there was nothing going on and very stable.

Well I ran it again today with the bars moved up a notch on the trailer. Seems to help, the trailer is not a snappy it feels more like one unit but still blows around more than I’d like but has more stability but also porpoises a bit more.

Re did my measurements as well.
Unloaded it’s 38-3/8 front
40-3/4 rear

Loaded with the previous bar setting was
38-3/4 front
39-1/2 rear

With the new setting
38-3/8 front
39-5/8 rear

Take your truck and trailer to the dealer and have them set it up for you. Make sure you are aware of what the tongue weight should be based on the weight of the trailer. Should be 12-15%. Too light and it's sway city!

It seems to my inexperienced eye that, the trailer is pointing nose up.
I think u might need to drop that hitch down some to have the trailer level or even a bit down at the front? Maybe a further away pic might help

Had more fun than I wanted to with this, it is pointing slightly up in this picture, I messed with any and all combinations of height and tension. Long story short I’m going back to lt tires next week. It was the only change that caused my issue. Had lt tires (although China’s) oem and I put the same Carlisles I have ran on other types of trailers and sparked my issues. Will have a better update after Tuesday. We re tried level, slightly up, slightly down and even added 300lbs tongue weight just because. No help.

Here is a picture of our set up. On a trip now and zero sway issues. The Husky is a good hitch when set up properly.
