Changing to Class 5 receiver hitch questions
My TV is a 2012 Ram 2500 CTD. I think I need to change my Class IV 2" hitch to a Class V 2.5" receiver hitch. The offerings on etrailer.com are with or without OEM hitch. Why would I go with either one? What would be the purpose to have 2 stacked hitches?
Also, the price varies from about $300 to $1,000. Curt, Draw-Tite, and Torklift.
Anybody here have answers to the first question and advice to the second question?
All suggestions appreciated,
Doug T.

The factory hitch on the Ram is not easily removable. It IS the mount for the bumper and also is the rear most crossmember for the truck frame. The stacked setup is a result of this. The advantage of the stack receivers (and I was not aware that anyone but Torklift made such a setup), is to use a truss bar extension largely for truck campers to be able to hitch up boats and such.
Torklift even makes a shank that engages both receivers at once. As far as strength and quality, I would go with the Torklift, no questions asked.
Whey do you need to go to the larger receiver? Are you sure of the class rating of the receiver you currently have?

I've used the double 2" torklift Superhitch "class V" hitch for 18 years now with good results. I had a 10.11' camper and hauled a 6,500 lbs 16' cargo trailer on a 3' extension behind my dually.

Same hitch my truck would use. I had a motor home, now have a travel trailer, but would like a truck camper but my 2500 is really not up to it numbers wise, tires especially. Its a shame the hitch is so expensive, I would not mind having it, "just because".
