Clunking Super Glide 5th wheel hitch

I have a 20,000lb Super glide hitch , the type that continually moves back as you turn . It clunks when I start and stop. I thought it was play in my puck system mounts bit turned out to be not the case as the clunk is still there now I tightend up the mounting points. Has any one else experienced this and know the fix ??? Or is this normal ? Thanks..

It sounds like you might need to tighten the adjustment screw for the hitch head. There may be too much play in it.

GD43,

As DarrellR said, there is a large jamb-nut bolt on the front of the hitch which, if not set properly, will cause your hitch to exhibit the symptoms you described. The purpose of this bolt is to stop fore/aft movement of the hitch. Ensure that bolt is set correctly, and I'll bet your hitch clunk will disappear.

Hello , I have adjusted the bolt on the front of the hitch after watching the manufactures video on how tight it should be. I have also tightened up the quick mounts that go into my 2024 GMC puck system mounts . Still clunks when I take off or stop . I am wondering if the plastic guides could be worn and the part of the hitch that slides rocking back and forth ? Or if it could be play where the pin is clamped ? Has anyone one experienced these problems with a Super Glide hitch ?

Mine has had this from the start, but was worse when the jamb nut was misadjusted. We learned to get used to it. What I really hated was the unit sliding back when taking off from a stop while making a turn. That was always unsettling but Pullrite said it was normal and fine. The first time that happens you may be convinced it came apart lol.

Gosh - my experience with the Pullrite goes back to 2010'ish.... I know it moved a bit but not so much that it bothered me.

Maybe watch the hitch/truck/trailer from a standstill start from the outside and see if you can spot something. Maybe there is some movement of the whole hitch assembly in the truck pucks?
