Comfort Ride - air cell hitch
Seems that with a heavy 5ver and heavy pin weight, some type of dampening be it hitch or pin box is in order. It would also seem that not having air bags in either would be a plus as far as leaking, maintenance, etc is concerned so the Comfort ride 245 seems an attractive solution for our F450.
For those that have one, how do you like? Any complaints or issues? Do the air cells wear out or deteriorate ?
For those that reviewed comfort ride and decided to go with an air solution, either hitch or pin box, can you expound on that decision please?
Thanks for the education!

I'm also interested in the Comfort ride hitch , I've heard some good things about them . I've also heard they are expensive and heavy . I will be ordering a 2020 F450 and a 40' New Horizon so I want the best for both . The Trailer Saver is also one I'm considering but I like the idea of not worrying about keeping air in the hitch so Comfort Ride will probably win out . I'm not sure where the best place is to get the best deal on them . Good luck with your search .

Yes, they do work and eliminate chucking.
I am not sure what the best one is. I had MorRyde and it worked great. But I see more and more air bladder type. My best guess is they would last 5 - 7 years before the sun deteriates the rubber and causes the bladder to leak.

I researched that hitch but was turned off by the lack of actual owner reviews and comments. Not to say it's not a good hitch, but I ordered a Trailersaver BD5 yesterday. From speaking with those that actually own and use the Trailersaver hitches, the air bags need very little maintenance.

OK, I have one, purchased directly from the Company Owner/Designer. He actually designed one of the Air Ride Hitches, but always thought there was a better way than the Air Bags. So he designed his Comfort Ride, but because of a "Non-compete" clause he couldn't bring the new hitch to market until a few years ago.
I have it in my 3500 Silverado with a MORryde King Pin on the front of my approx 20K Redwood with 3500# of pin. We travel most of the Summer, done the entire Canadian Maritime, and most of the New England area and love the combo hitch and pin.
The Comfort Ride is HEAVY, but built like a Tank. Not to cut down Anderson, but I have a real problem pulling a Huge heavy Fifthwheel and looking for the lightest hitch I can find.

If you are looking for a hitch with air cell technology try a search for the Blue Ox Super Ride hitch. It checks a lot of boxes; articulates for short bed trucks, ISR or gooseneck ball mounting, wrap-around jaws, no need for lube plate, breaks down for easy removal.
Personally, I own a TrailerSaver TS3. I can't see how another hitch could improve on the quality of the tow/ride. Just finished its fifth season. I keep it covered so it looks new and it has never needed any maintenance issues. Heavy and expensive; in my mind, worth it.

Thank you for responding, presume you have the 245 model for the weights you are hauling? How old is it, any issues with the air cells cracking or crumbling due to weather exposure?
I agree with you, im looking for a hitch that meets the capacity of the f450 as we are looking at 5vers in that 22=k range with 4k pin, lightweight hitches dont make sense for big trucks and heavy loads as such I have no intrest in andersen

The blue ox looks good, like the rubber isolation springs...however its only rated to 20k....but it has a 5 k pin.....so i dont think its beefy enough for what we have in mind....

But they do need air....I also dont see many reviews on the comfort rides, not sure if thats because they just arent that popular, not well known, to expensive or to much hitch for most folks needs, although they do make a smaller 18k rated model.
Thanks for the response and sharing, post back how you like the BD5 it seems to be a very popular choice

Palmeris, No real issues, but it did start to bend a support and tear a weld. Contacted Rick (Comfort Ride) and he had already fixed the issue and set me up with a local hitch shop where I happened to be to remove and replace the damaged part. No issues since.
I've had the hitch approx 3 years now and couldn't be happier. I bought mine from Rick at the Redwood Rally in Shipshewana. I know he sold at least 3 hitches at that Rally and might have made a sale of a fourth.
He's not a big operation, mainly just Him and his Wife, working in his garage.
My hitch was originally in my 2011 Silverado with standard Rail mounts, when I bought a 2018 Silverado with the puck system, I ordered the Puck Kit from Rick to mount in the new truck.

I'm ordering a 40' New Horizon and asked them about what they recommended for the hitch and they said Comfort Ride . They told me many customers have remarked about improved trailering with it . I also noticed it was the only hitch they offered as an option when ordering a 5er from them. I asked about the Trailer Saver and they had good things to say about it but Comfort Ride seemed more maintenance free.

You can check my recent frame failure on the site, and then my addition of the trail aire pin box with bladder and shock absorber. Yes, I do have to add air sometimes: at my weight I need exactly 70 PSI but usually go to 80 and maybe every 2 months add air. But, speaking of the frame failure wherein I pulled into the service center with the 5er on the bed rails, imagine the pleasure I get watching in the rear view mirror the pin box/fill line on the shock absorber dancing 2-3 inches over rough roads......it's worth the $1200 and adds some weight, and I think that one air bladder is enough, plus takes care of any chucking nicely.

to get the kind of hitch to haul ,4k noe loaded 5k or more you need a trailer saver tslb. add the 3rd bag for 500 and your done. you have 7500 pin weight raiting and 32k trailer weight last hitch youll ever need. The ride is great. My pin weight is 6k. i dont sew comfort ride up to the job. The other option is the ET hitch look at them on hdt areas. They male a medium duty option..
