Dead tow vehicle battery question

So this isnít a problem, but I was thinking about it last night and curious if it would work- say you left your tow vehicle lights on and drained the battery. If you were to plug into the trailer while connected to shore power, would that provide reverse current to the tow vehicle battery and possibly charge it?

It depends. My 2011 GMC will charge this way, BTDT and even used the solar from the RV to charge it. My 55A converter will charge both 5th wheel and truck but charge rate will be slower.

Newer trucks that run the trailer power through the TBCM (trailer brake control module) may or may not cut battery feed from your truck after a predetermined time. My truck has such a module but the 12V feed bypasses it. Some trucks run through it and shut it off.

The previous posts have really answered the question, and that answer is, "It depends."

You will have to do some research on your tow vehicle set-up to know if a "back feed" is possible. Even if it is, it will be a long, slow process as the charge, in both directions, is just a trickle. IMO, in an emergency like you describe, a good set of jumper cables connected to the trailer batteries will get you started.

You might also be able to just pull the battery out of your RV and use that to jump start your tow vehicle.
