I am having a weight distribution/sway bar put on my new travel trailer. Reading the instructions it says to connect or disconnect on flat and level ground. Where I live at in NW Arkansas there is no flat and level ground.

How much harder will it be to hook this up?

Not much harder. You may have to raise the trailer higher to get the bars or chains hooked up.
I have done it many times on uneven ground.
Another option is to move the trailer to flat ground then hook up the WD feature. I've done that also.

Can I use this without the bars for short distances? I am mainly asking about the distance from storage to my home which is less than 10 miles away. The route will be on two lane roads not the interstate.

Today may be my first time to actually see one of these in person. The dealer is installing it and I guess he will finish the install when I am there with my truck.

rubenray, yes you can use it without the bars. OP, you do not need a WDH to tow your trailer. But you may want one anyway. I find a WDH smooths out the ride, especially going over those rolling bumps. The WDH takes some of the bounce out of the truck springs. Then there is the added benefit of sway control built into many of the WDHs. Try it without and see what you think. Dealers will often give a heavy discount on the WDH when buying a new TT.

How about hooking and unhooking in a parking lot?

Tim

There is a fairly level spot in the road back behind my house. I live on an oval shape road. I am the only one living there for now, so I could block the road for a short time.
