Double towing guidelines

Legal towing lengths. Have a 30 ft bumper pull camper. Thinking of double pulling my boat. 18 ft + from tongue. Any thoughts.

Check this out for general info but, like the article says, you almost need to check DMV rules in each state.

https://news.pickuptrucks.com/2009/0...ouble-tow.html

Here's another one that says it has a list of states that are legal. I still would want to check for myself.

How are you going to wire the lights and brakes on the boat trailer?

I towed double bumper pulls and you absolutely need to contact each state you plan to travel in and the generic info sites are not accurate.

Here is a site I use for RV towing information. It is mostly the East coast and West coast states that don't allow double/triple towing.

Here in SC you can’t double tow with a TT. You can if you have a fifth wheel.

Florida would call that triple towing. They don't like it unless you have a CDL

Its not triple towing, its doubles. Triple towing is 3 trailers.

I would tie the brake lights and turn signals into the first trailer system boat trailer does not have brakes. Think it's a lost cause. Appears NC doesn't allow

I beg to differ Grindstone, in the link you provided it says Ca does not allow triples, yet towing doubles is legal even with 2 bumper pulls. Misinformation will get you in trouble which is why i call it doubles and why i say the generic links with towing guides are not accurate.

The web site is a good guide. There is alot of different info regarding CA towing. Even the LEO's have different opinions on CA towing laws.

As others have said, you'll need to check with each state's DMV. Generic websites can give you a good idea, but you'll want more accurate information. Generally, there's a 70ish foot overall limit. Truck, plus camper, plus boat is likely over that. Most states in my experience won't bother you if you're over that limit and look safe. If you have an old 1985 Chevy Colorado and a 30 foot camper and boat, you'll get some unwanted attention.
