The base inverter on the f150 is the same, 400w. Suitable for powering your laptop and such...

The 1st optional inverter is a 2400w 120v unit for about $600. That will give you 20amps, but you need to run the engine for that one to work.

The 7200w unit requires the full hybrid system and will work without running the engine until the hybrid battery runs down, at that point the engine will cycle to keep things running. It offers four 120-volt, 20-amp outlets and one twist-lock NEMA L6-20 240-volt, 30-amp outlet and can provide up to 7,200 watts of electricity. Probably alot quieter than an open frame Genny of the same size...
Actually it was 2400w capability. Keep in mind this was more than 15 years ago! They were WAY ahead. I have not investigated what is available currently or recently.

Going by the video the engine seems to start and stop seamlessly and quietly with the hybrid motor. None of that gear grinding and cranking as with a conventional starter motor.

BTW a 7.5 kw Generac generator costs $1999 at Home Depot. The F-150 looks pretty good if you need both a truck and a generator.

I do not know how the generator works but if it comes on when the truck is started then you probably have remote start generator. That is a big deal.

Is the generator plumbed into the trucks oil. If so, that would be good too. Change the oil in the truck and you change the oil in the generator automatically.

I know the generator is plumbed into the trucks gas tank. Get the towing package and get a 36 gallon gas tank. That is also good.

I can see using the trucks generator in a pinch and maybe more. I have a Yamaha IS 2400w generator but no remote start. It has a small gas tank. I would use the trucks generator at night or in the rain. I would use my Yamaha during the day when needed.

Most Trucks now come with a 400w plug I think. My 2011 F-150 had a 400w plug, my 2012 F-450 had the same as well as my 2017 F-250. I know I have seen the plug on GM trucks and Ram trucks too.

Can you imagine the sense of freedom you would feel?

Going by the video it looks like the motor-generator automatically starts the truck engine when the battery runs down to a certain point. Then the engine drives the motor-generator to recharge the battery until its fully charged.

Good idea to get the larger gas tank. It'd be interesting to know how long it can power a home in a storm outage.

I bet that the truck engine exhaust is lot cleaner than the generator exhaust.

I wonder if the truck running is less irritating then a generator.

I doubt very much if that plug in the bed of the truck will produce 30 or 50 amps of AC electricity. That plug will probably power an electric drill, and that's about all.

Saw one power 2 travel trailers at the same time. It has a 30 amp 240v outlet that will send 2 - 30 amp 120v to with a 30a -50a dogbone. I ordered one in January but don’t have it yet.

Bedsides boondockers, local contractors may find this truck useful.

In Generator mode the truck cycles the engine as needed to keep the juice flowing and batteries charged.

The generator is the reason I ordered mine. If it didn’t have that I would have been looking at a 3/4 ton.

Looking forward to seeing IRV2 members report on these trucks in camping situations. Pretty cool idea. Who needs a stinky noisy Onan.

I would be interested in it as a standby generator for my home. It would run everything except the a/c's. From what I have seen in the TFT video it starts and stops automatically like you said, and you can hardly hear it. The 35kw motor built into the transmission housing apparently does the starting so you don't have that loud annoying sound from a typical gear driven starter.

The good part is that it doesn't seem to be that costly an option. As far as I can figure out the 2.4 KW version costs about $2400 more and the 7.2KW costs about 5k more. Not bad considering you're getting not just a generator but a 20% fuel savings on top of that.
