F-250 6.2 shuts off while idling?

Yesterday I was in a F-250 and I pulled off the road to look at Google Maps. I left the truck idle with the A/C on. After looking at Google maps I made a phone call. The truck still idling. After about 20 minutes it shut off. I was surprised that it shut off. What if I had a dog in the truck with the A/C running while I was in a store. I do not think it should shut off on it's own.

Lots of commercial vehicles have an idle time-out. (To keep employees from running the truck all day by 'accident')

You need to set the PTO to keep it running.

(Try turning cruise control 'ON' and pressing 'SET' or 'resume' while parked... You may even be able to adjust idle speed that way)

I do not have any more dogs, but what great animals. This was rare and the truck started right back up. Without A/C the truck would get too hot. The truck was a good place to make a semi private call or do I thought.

The truck did not sputter and stall. This was a smooth shutoff.

So now I know if I get more dogs I can run into a store and buy what I initially went in there for and come back out. I can not browse.

Idle run timeout. Most new cars and trucks have it. Idle time is a huge target for emissions police. Some new cars shut off at stop lights.

Thanks for posting this. We do have a dog and I was planning on leaving the truck running with the ac on when we head south.
I notice in the app ford pass I can start my truck then there is a button to add 10 min.
I might have to try this out to see if it stays running.
Hear in Alaska heat is not normally a problem. I just leave the windows down 3-4”
