But, that sounds REALLY appealing being able to put a generator that sips fuel in the frunk to recharge the batteries.
It does. And that’s essentially what a Chevy Volt was before they discontinued it. I don’t know much about this kind of thing but I would think you would need a substantial sized generator to make it work. Not my field though.

The ford hybrid F150 seems to be a nice compromise although a truck is not a good fit for us. We are looking at EV SUV’s right now. Don’t need to buy for a few months though so just snooping the field.

If you like the F-150 hybrid concept but need an SUV then take a look at the so-called third generation plug-in hybrids being sold by Mercedes, Audi, et al. Like the F-150, they all use a mechanical drive train supplemented by an electric motor that is built into the transmission housing. This gives you regenerative braking, extra power boost when needed and seamless auto-start/stop function. The main difference is they have a larger battery than the F-150 that gives you 50 km of electric-only operation which will meet 90% of most people's driving demands.

We have been looking. Still a few more to see. Our daily distance travelled is pretty small when we are touring so really a full BEV SUV would work for us as well, but we are checking out all options including a few on your list.

Cheers.

Workhorse has a BMW diesel generator built in, for this exact purpose.

Along with not having a dedicated charging station, most campgrounds do not allow charging of electric vehicles.

Can’t say I have ever run into that and our tow car was an EV for the last 5 years of motorhoming.

I suspect campgrounds will be finding ways to add charging facilities to attract new clientele. Already seeing the odd level 2 station in a couple of the local campgrounds. Either that or just a half dozen extra 14-50 receptacles somewhere and charge a flat fee. EV’s come with their own EVSE. Campgrounds don’t need to spend big bucks on hardware.

Campgrounds will adapt or die. EV’s aren’t going away. Might as well make some money from them.
