Under fast charge it takes hours to charge a EV.

Those old timers that figured you could power engines with gasoline were geniuses. They started back in 1890 so 132 years for the same fuel is really incredible. I will venture to say gasoline will be used for the next 50 years and maybe beyond.

Do the scientist still think oil comes from dead dinosaurs? If so, how many dinosaurs were there?

I agree Lithium Ion batteries are fire hazards.
If a 1 hr charge afforded you 150 miles of range for like, 10 or 15$, would that interest you?

You may as well chuck your cell phone, most of your remotes, cordless phones, rechargeable power tools and more if that scares you.

It's not like gas or diesel vehicles ever burn eh? They are fire hazards, at a rate of 10 to 1 vs EVs, and that is pro rata.

You may be forgetting time needed to access a fuel pump at certain locations. I have waited up to 1/2 hr at times. An EV is generally fueled at home except for longer trips.

When my wife drove to Montana, charging her Etron from essentially empty to 100% took 40 or 50 minutes.

Recommended practice is charging to 80% when stopping during a trip, because that last 20% of charge goes in at a much slower rate. She charged to 100% because she was not certain about availability of chargers.

The Level 2 charger in our garage takes several hours to go from 30% to 100%, but since that is overnight about once a week that is not a big deal.

When commercial trucking is using electric only then will I consider an electric truck or RV. As it is now they are just commuters and grocery getters.

They are doing that here already, but it is currently aimed at local and semi local routes, as well as certain types of vehicles. There are lots of school busses, some city busses, some garbage trucks and more and more box trucks in the 16 to 26' range.

You can be sure that government agencies will be using your tax dollars to buy EVs. Anyone else will be using some sort of government subsidy.

I have no issues with it. They pay themselves off in 5 years. Fuel and maintenance savings over 5 years pay the difference in initial cost. They are cheap to operate here.

all the school bus operators are private here, so they have reason to go EV. Most of the box trucks are privately (business) owned. Ofcourse they will use subsidies. No different than the oil czars using subsidies well over 100 years later.

The Ford Lightning and the soon to come Silverado EV are precursors to better things to come. They will come soon.

That Audi is da boss. They have the best interiors on the road, coming from a guy who owns (and currently owns) many BMWs and Porsches. Well bought sir.

With the possible exception of Tesla, the Germans are well ahead of us with this technology, as are the Asian and Scandinavian makers. As usual, we're playing catch-up.

You own many Beamers and Porches ? Why would you waste your time here ? Why aren't you traveling to awesome worldly extravagant locales ?

We bought a prius plug in hybrid..
It only gets 30mi to a charge...
They have evs getting 10 times this..
There are incentives to buy these things.
We were looking a used 2020..
The salesman showed us with all the rebates
A new plug in was much cheaper. Sticker was
29k it was march madness so 5k off that so
24k..we got a 3000 rebate from our state for buying a plug in
21k. 500 from our electric comp as a bill credit.
20.5k
4500 federal tax rebate
15.5 is what we paid in real dollars after rebates.
It was a no brainer for us..and after filling everything out we received all of these rebates..
.
The prius has avg 64mpg since new..I've checked the computer by hand calculating and its
Surprisingly spot on...And being a hybrid we dont have to plug it in...I think an affordable ev with a range of 3-400 miles would make a fine traveling car..pickups are in the future...

The Prius is a lightweight car, albeit performance is good. The physics of moving weight would dictate a larger rate of storage and charging capacity, which would require a higher rate of fuel consumption.

Battery technology would have to change for this. What we want is power and longer range. It'll be interesting to see what develops.

The Prius is an amazing car. Not the plug-in version but the normal non-plug-in hybrid version. It consumes much less energy than a plug in. Our electric grids are in bad shape and we don't want to be plugging in anything that wastes energy.

Huh? I have a 2020 BMW Z4 M40i and a 2021 Audi SQ8 but I still like to camp......I also like to travel to "awesome worldly extravagant locales" on occasion.....not sure how these things relate, or better yet are mutually exclusive?

I think we all check the capabilities of the vehicles we drive before we purchase them. The F-150 is a Tesla killer and with the battery technology moving forward so fast, it will soon be a diesel killer as well. I'd be surprised if there are any diesel pickups to be purchased inside 5 years with an outright ban in less than 10. Roll 'em while you can!
