I have not towed an 8000 pound bumper pull, so my answer is conjecture and extrapolation from towing my 11-12k 5ver and a few times pulling a small tractor on a car trailer (maybe 4000lb combined).
I believe I would have been very happy with the 7.3L with the 8k load would have been very unlikely to switch from gas to diesel.
I was generally happy with the truck pulling 12k and would not have been able to justify replacing a nearly new truck if I wasn't at the weight limit.
There are enough gas vs diesel threads on irv2 that I won't go down that rabbit hole.
A few more of my favorite comments on the super duty...
Crew cab long bed gets you the 48 gallon fuel tank. All other combos get a 36 gallon. That's an extra 100 miles of range when towing.
Crew cab long bed is about 23.5 feet long and has a larger turning radius than the shorter versions. It takes a little extra planning when parking.

23.5' long? Is that with stock front and rear bumpers, no added brush bars or anything? Geez, I thought my truck was long at 22'. I never checked the wheelbase on an F450 because I have no interest nor need for it, but I imagine it's in the 176" or more length then? Wowza

Thanks Tim; and I 100% agree on both the range and the turning radius!
kdauto; yes, wheelbase for a CC LB Superduty is 176" (F250 - F450 are the same) ......great for stability, not so much for parking! ....but I'll live with the trade-off, and at least you get the 48 gallon tank.

176" wheel base but what a nice tow. I tow a 14k 13 foot tall toy hauler with my 7.3/4.30 combo and you won't be disappointed.

Correction, that is 22.5 feet from receiver to the towing eyes poking out of the front bumper.

Oh yes, I will add these to my prior post.
After 30,000 towed miles, my only complete on the 7.3 is the fuel tank size (sb). MPG is livable, tank size is the only demerit. So, if I got to re-do it ... I would get a LB to enable the larger tank ...

A valid point. For those wanting a shortbox (seems like most people!) or a Supercab, there is at least one company making a 60 gallon aftermarket replacement tank.

Yeah, I have looked in to those ... briefly. Very expensive and of dubious reliability (IMO). I mean ... I would have just bought a diesel instead of paying for one of those things plus installation cost.
