F350 Recall

I got a recall for our rather new F350 (Feb '21) regarding the windshield. Apparently the windshield is not well glued and can come off in an accident.

Made an appointment with my local Ford dealer twice (admittedly not the dealer I bought from) and received a call both times that they can not do the repair because there is a risk of breaking the glass in the process and they do not have any spares.

Oh well. I think the risk of driving the truck like that is minimal and I would expect anyway that the windshield may get damaged in an accident. But it is weird for Ford to issue a recall and then being unable to fix it at the dealership. Also, if I should really break the glass for some reason it would be stupid if there is no replacement.

Did anybody else here get such a recall and how was it fixed?

I would ask them when the spares will be in to be able to do the recall. Ford dealers are on the hook to perform safety recalls.

If the dealer continues to refuse to do safety recall work, contact Ford corporate or the Ford Regional Service Rep... From past experiance the dealer will fall over themselves to get it done once Ford corporate is involved.

I've had a similar issue on my 2011 GMC, airbag recall, but no airbags could be found until a few weeks ago. Going in tomorrow to have another mechanic work on my truck, fees weird for a mechanic to do that,LOL.

Likely there are few spare parts in Ford inventory, they're keeping them for new builds right now. If it broke and you were in a bind, I'm sure they'd find one within a few days. Get the recall scheduled, at least have the call noted just in case.

Windshields make up to 30% of the structural integrity of a car body these days. Poorly fastened ones can cause creaking, leaking and other issues. Given the history of issues windshield leaks have caused on F series in the past I'd get it done.

My F250 has the same recall and until I have issues I am leaving it the way it is.

A few years ago our corporate safety department told us that vehicle windshields are a structural part of the vehicle. In an accident the windshield helps maintain the integrity of the passenger compartment.

Windshield cracks or a windshield that does not stay in place increases the risk to occupants.

It is probably a good idea to get the recall completed.
