Update: I picked up our F-550 Lariat on Friday.

The 750 mile drive home was fun with 10 unloaded leaf springs; my kidneys should stop bleeding in the next week or two

North Dakota:

Wyoming:

Boulder, Colorado:

We needed the 19,500 GVWR as I'll be carrying 8000+ lbs in the bed for a custom built setup with Eagle Cap 1165 (triple slide truck camper) on 43" tires (think earthroamer).

We moved from an F350 with a GVWR package (14,000 gvwr) with a Northern Lite 10.2 in the bed.

For you Gents discussing trucks; generic rule of thumb:
F450 is for pulling stuff.
F550 is for carrying stuff.

p.s.s. Progressive insured it for 1/3 of what Geico wanted.
Private use of a commercial vehicle.

Is the only difference between the F-450 Cab Chassis and the F-550 is the gearing - 488 vs 430?
The 550 has an extra "c channel' reinforcement on the frame making it stronger for the higher payload. It also has cast leaf spring shackles which are stronger/beefier for the 10 spring leaf pack.

Good news all around and great you found a F-550 Lariat. Probably not easy to find unless you want to travel. The XL trim level is easier to find.

Again great news!!!

Perfect driving record, five insured vehicles, never a claim, yada yada...

Our current insurance company says that it'll require a separate commercial policy due to the extra GVWR and came back with a quote over 5X the cost.

Is there anyone out there that recognizes RV usage and will write it under a personal policy?

In Colorado.

Thanks in advance. Cheers!
Found the problem.
I am native here and I hate what this state has become.
3 years ago my insurance was arbitrarily increased by $100.00 per mo for 2 vehicles.
No tickets, accidents or claims.

You might try good sam... As fulltimers we found their rates to be competitive. And they of course cater to the rv crowd...only issue is I think they
Use Allstate as a carrier..

What was the problem you found? Is it related to the increased vehicle crashes since a certain mind altering herb is now legal in Colorado. I remember reading somewhere crashes are up 14% there, more than any other state.
