Ford owners only - how good is the 6.7litre
Just curious - did Ford do a good job with their newest diesel engine. I have a 2012 with 23,000 miles. No issues and plenty of power.

Awesome truck, I had a 12 F350 that I pulled a 40ft Cardinal fiver with. Never had a problem with it. When I sold it I had 46k miles on it. For what it's worth, one thing I did to it and I do with all my vehicles is I had the transmission serviced. People will always change their engine oil, but wait until they have tranny problems to realize that they need servicing too. I know that Ford will say it's probably not necessary with your low miles, but I would get it done anyway. JMO Randy

My folks currently pull with a 2011 F350 they ordered new. It's a very refined package. Has around 36k on it now I believe. They had a '02 7.3, and an '06 6.0 before this one. All bought new. I pull with a '09 6.4 F350. It does a beautiful job too, but the 6.7 is not only quieter and more responsive, but it gets on average 1.5-2 mpg better than my 6.4. It also doesn't regenerate near as often. I wish now I'd have bought a 6.7, but I only drive it 5k a year and it's in the building the rest of the time, so financially it doesn't make sense for me to upgrade when this truck is paid for.

Also of the 4 trucks, the only issue we've had is with my 6 4. It had an oil leak that was so minor it didn't even drip on the garage floor. My dealer wanted to fix it under warranty. We just scheduled it during the winter when I didn't need it. Repairs took a couple days. We have had good luck with all our Fords and have a great local dealer that takes good care of us after the sale.

Ford had some issues with the 6.7 engine when it came out, but they quickly made modifications to right the problems. Now, the 6.7 engine is as good as there is. They're now putting the engine in their medium duty trucks as it's one strong powerplant.

Is there any weakness that I should be trying to head off before it becomes an huge issue?
So far just having regular maintenance oil changes and once filter changes. I also have the water separator drained every oil change.

Not that I'm aware of. Dad did have something simple just last month with the DEF. He took it in for service and the dealer caught it. Nothing major and they ordered the part and had it done the next day. The folks just drive it and service it when needed. Our family has run Fords pretty exclusive for many years (as well as a GM or Chrysler every now and again) Dad will be 70 this year, and this 2011 is by far his favorite truck.

Funny it is only affecting the 15 and newer 16. My 14 has 24K with no problems getting traded in either tomorrow or Monday depending on when the 16 is ready to pick up.

I have a good friend who has a 2012 F450 w/ 4.10 rear end and pulls a 38' Exiss converted to a toyhauler. I think he is around 17K loaded. He loves it. Plenty of power and decent mpgs.
