I was hoping for a basic work truck and Ford gave us a front wheel drive grocery getter with a "polite size" bed.

The last time I rode in a Maverick was when the recruiter drove to the local MEPS Station when Jimmy Carter was President. I'm too old to do that again.

It’s based on the Bronco Sport platform, so is basically a car with a box. Not a body on frame truck. Hybrid is FWD, while the 4WD gets the 2.0, and 4K towing capacity.

I must say though, the 1500 lb cargo rating is impressive for it.

I’d buy one, but not to tow a travel trailer.

Are you serious ?

I own a Honda Ridgeline and its front wheel drive only. I have towed some pretty large UHaul trailers a few times and use it to launch and retrieve my 4000 lb boat.

The front tires have never lifted or spun, towing up hill or pulling the boat up the wet boat ramp.

I suppose if I dropped 10,000 lbs on the hitch, it might lift the front up, but that would happen with a rear wheel drive too. Then you couldn't steer.

It could tow a T@B or Little Guy Maxx. Those are cool small campers. It could also tow a A-Liner type camper. And it could tow most pop-up campers.

I think the biggest issue(s) with towing are going to be the frontal square foot area max of 40 square foot and the overall width of the truck mirrors. I don't see a lot of aftermarket mirrors being developed to allow you to see around a trailer. I had issues with my 2015 Canyon and my popup's width.

I agree that a small vehicle might have a lot of trouble controlling a trailer. I did not notice a wheelbase on the Maverick.

The way I read it is that there is no 4WD, only FWD or AWD.

The Santa Cruz will have a 1,748 lb payload. Holy smokes that is a lot for a little truck. That is more than most Ram 1500's

The Maverick with 121.7" wheelbase would be ok for the T@B and A-liner type and medium sized pop-ups.

I had a gen 1 Honda Ridgeline and it was a great city truck. I miss the trunk. It had a 122" wheelbase. It could not control a 26.5' conventional travel trailer (2008 Gulfstream Streamlite 22SLB) at highway speeds. But it towed my little runabout boat really easy.

I bought the Maverick hybrid as a toad. Only the FWD hybrid is flat towable, and my XLT model comes in at 3,674 pounds.

As RVers we are going to see a lot of Mavericks in campgrounds. I believe they can be towed 4 down in certain configurations. May be a perfect pickup toad; light enough to be towed behind a class A or class C gasser. Low cost is a bonus.

Oops, 1 post too late!

This is an interesting little truck with a 4000 lb towing capacity.
Neat little truck and will have a place for those that need a small pickup type truck and tow a single axle lawn service trailer/other small type of trailers or just a small load of garden/yard supplies from Lowes.
I have no idea why a 5th wheel trailer was mentioned however it wasn't designed with that in mind.
With the 2.0 EB engine cranking out 250hp/255 torque it can pull those small pop ups or the smaller TTs 4k and under.
Fleet Ford specs doesn't have any weight specs yet (gvwr/fawr/rawr. So we have to wait for Fords specs to know how much payload we can put in the bed (actual payload).

Hey, we had a Ford Maverick in 1974 with the 250 CID engine. It was a pretty decent little car. We put a bunch of miles on it and sold it to my wife's stepbrother. And he destroyed it. Never changed the oil and ran it out of oil and locked up the engine. It never used oil when we had it.
