Ford unveils the Maverick

https://techcrunch.com/2021/06/08/fo...der-20000/amp/

This is an interesting little truck with a 4000 lb towing capacity.

I’m more impressed by the pricing. It’s cheaper than civic. Good job Ford. This will steer a lot people who consider small crossover/suv to the pickup world. Later they’ll find maverick isn’t capable enough for their growing needs, then they’ll get a Ranger or F150.

Am I reading correctly that only a 4 door will be sold? I didn't see any reference to other configurations or 4WD.
They will sell well at that price point.

They will only have one configuration, 4 doors.

A lot of the truck manufacturers are narrowing their offerings. You can only purchase a Ridgeline in a 4 door, short bed configuration. I don't think any of the mid-size trucks have a regular cab configuration. Would not be surprised to see the extended cab disappear on the midsize.

Full size trucks, you cannot get a regular cab, short bed model any longer as far as I know.

You will be lucky to find an entry level truck on a lot.

Looks like only crewcab will be available. And 4wd only available with the 2.0T engine. And that 2.5hybrid gets 40mpg would be very attractive.

But I don’t get it why Bronco with the 2.0T engine is 10K more expensive than the maverick.

And expect to see their mid and full size truck sale to increase in the next couple of years after these maverick owners graduate.

I’ve always said if Ford built a small truck like the original Courier that i would buy one. I guess this is as close as it will get.

neat little truck. I see 2,000 lbs towing capacity...

This part of the article makes me laugh; The electric motor and accompanying 2.5 liter engine produces 191 horsepower, 155 pound-feet of torque, and it can tow up to 2,000 pounds. That might not be attractive to those looking to haul one of the larger fifth-wheel campers on the market today.

Really? a 191 hp, unibody microtruck can't haul a large 5th wheel? ....what a shocker!

Sounds strange to be towing with FWD with the trailer pushing down the rear and lifting up the front. What happens when you're going up a hill and it starts raining? Do the front wheels spin?

This looks like a Ford Escape with the back end chopped off. The interesting thing though is that it comes with a choice of two completely different drive trains, one an Atkinson-cycle engine with a continuously variable transmission and the other with an ecoboost with an 8 speed transmission.

Actually maybe it's not very interesting afterall.

A Honda Civic has an 1800 lb tow capacity; basically anything under 3,500 lbs means that you shouldn't really tow anything.

It will tow a tent camper. I don't think they're pushing it as a serious tow vehicle.

Why Maverick? Mavericks were flat out butt ugly and technically junk. Not really the moniker I'd want to put on a brand new truck.
