My experience - a heavy 5th wheel sitting still will not blow a tire. But if you tow that heavy 5th wheel tires will blow. Been there done that. So my experience tires can hold more weight sitting still than being towed at 60 mph.

Where’s the table that tells us how much weight the tire will hold sitting still, or at 25mph, or 45mph, or 60mph?

Rotational speeds are represented as speed ratings. All tires have them.

Get this I was towing this heavy 5th wheel on back roads around 45 - 50 mph on a 60 degree day. I was towing from Crystal River Florida to Jacksonville Florida in winter. About 130 miles and if you look at that route it is most diagonal across Florida on Route 301.

The reason I mention this is just sitting a am sure these tires would not have blown.

Now this 5th wheel was packed buy hoarders and I should not have volunteered to move it, but I did. Live and learn.

Speed rating has nothing to do with load rating, mixing apples & oranges.

Yep. And the load rating applies to all speeds from zero to the maximum speed rating. At least until someone can provide a load chart from a tire manufacturer that shows different load ratings at different speeds.

Still waiting.

Did you weigh the “heavy” 5th wheel? Did you check the tire pressure? How old were the tires? Were there any signs of damage to the tires? We’re the tires properly maintained from the time they were mounted?

Yes, you would think load ratings are load ratings but these tires would have never blown just sitting still. You can take that to the bank.

The tires blew because it was being moved for one place to another place.

I would also say if going 5 mph the tires would not have blown. Like moving from one RV site to another another.

No, I can not explain it but those are the facts.

I mentioned on the forum two weeks ago that I contacted Cooper Tire directly to ask some questions related to air pressure and load. I was told the same thing directly from Cooper. Load rating is the load rating. Not dependent upon speed. Anyone can contact the manufacturer and get the same info I would imagine.

It’s not what you think, it’s what you know.

The load ratings are actually the load ratings. That’s a fact.

Your little story, however, is amusing.

You have no idea if they would or would not have blown just sitting there, I have a permanent spot and the campers where I am at pretty much only move twice a year, the camper three campers down from me blew a tire just sitting there, the tires were approximately 7 years old but only moved about a mile down the road to a storage lot, that camper was over weight, boy did they have crap in that camper. I beleive they just got lucky it didn't blow just sitting there.

I think we should have a separate discussion area for tire pressure threads. Seems to be as contentious or more than some health issue discussions.
