Good video to pick a truck with payloads

This is a video of looking at payloads of Ford trucks. I believe the payloads on GM and Ram are roughly the same.

That was very interesting thanks for posting. It really shows the importance of looking at that sticker as opposed to trying to use charts. The biggest suprise was the sticker on his personal truck. I wonder if he traded in lol.

I was really surprised to see a SRW F-350 truck with 4,500lb cargo capacity. That had to be wrong.

It would be interesting to see Ram and GM trucks too. The 2020 GM 2500HD trucks seem to be on steroids.

I don't remember exactly, but my 2016 F350 SRW 4x4 had over 4k payload. One of the reasons I chose it at the time - payload was higher than comperable other brands.

With the 7.3 gas engine which is probably 400 or lbs lighter in total than the diesel engine I can maybe see a 4,500lb cargo capacity. The 8' bed must increase payload.

One thing this tells me, as much as I try to keep up on things I can't.

My 2019 F350 with 6.2 gas SRW CC SB 4x4 I bought last year has 4114 lbs ccc. That was one of the reasons I bought it

It is eye opening to see how much the different trim levels matter for payload. When I was shopping I looked at the sticker on the trucks. An 800-1200 pound payload difference from my 2020 3500 Tradesman 4x4, HO diesel, crew cab, longbed, Aisin tranny, compared to the similar Laramie trimmed trucks. And the Limited trims had less payload than the Laramie. Had the dealer had a Laramie or a Limited without the sunroof, I might have gone for that if I wasn't concerned about payload. Try to find a RAM 3500 crew cab with more than 5400 payload and a 34k towing rating.

I do not see the value in spending $20k more than I did for this truck, for less capacity. And I also noticed, and was surprised, that many upper trims do not come with the 5th wheel/gooseneck package or the HO diesel. Perhaps if I was in Wisconsin, I'd have the heated seats and steering wheel. The two things I will add to my truck are a larger fuel tank and a remote start.

HDGoose - I agree that the more you pay for a truck the less it can carry..
But remember your wallet is lighter.

The big reason for that higher payload number is that in the 2020 model year, Ford and others increased the GVWR of their F350 SRW trucks....or I should say that on the 8' bed version. You can get a 2020 F350 SRW, 4x4, CrewCab, 8' bed with a 12,400 lb GVWR. Basically the truck's weight stayed the same as the '19 model, but when you increase the GVWR from 11,500 lb to 12,400 lbs and the weight pretty much stays the same, there is an increase of 900 lbs of payload. 2019 models were in the 3300 - 3500 lbs of payload range. The same truck as a 2020 is now in the 4300 - 4500 lb range....and again, depending on how it is equipped/trim level.

So no physical change to the truck like a new frame, springs, tires or axles?

My 2020 RAM 3500 label says 14k GVWR and 5474 payload. My truck with me, my usual stuff and full fuel was 9100pbs on the scale.

Supposedly a new frame and body style from last year.
